Tried Go-Ang in Singapore first, which prompted me to check out the original in Bangkok subsequently. Slightly fancier settings in Singapore, with extra dishes on the menu, but the food is still very much affordable for an imported brand.

Frequent foodie travellers to Bangkok would probably have come across the famous Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice. The Michelin Guide awardee has been dishing out plates of chicken rice which are the very definition of Thai chicken rice, and the outlets in Bangkok never fail to have perpetually long queues. Have eaten at the original stall in Bangkok multiple times and I must say, the chicken rice there is significantly different from Singapore’s favourite Hainanese Chicken Rice. For one, the chicken meat in Thai chicken rice is much drier, less moist and not as tender, not something Singaporeans are used to. The rice, while fragrant, is less greasy, which is not something a lot of people may appreciate when it comes to chicken rice. However, what makes up for it are the accompanying sauces which really help pack plenty of punch and flavour to the dish. My initial expectation before trying out the chicken rice in their Singapore outlet was that the chicken would be dry. To my surprise, while the flavour profile was similar to that of Thai chicken, the chicken was slightly more moist and juicy. The rice was pretty much the same as the Thai outlets rice. Also sampled their omelette which if I’m not wrong, is not available in their Thai outlets and it was pretty damn good. Will defo be back and I highly recommend it if you’re sorely missing Thailand like I am.

Returning again because of its affordability, especially in town! 🙂 Considering the chicken rice is Michelin star, it was really value for money @ $4.80 ($5.80 for chicken thigh). However, did not feel that it was superb. They do sell several hot soup though, liked the bitter gourd one! Really worth the visit if you’re exploring affordable eats that are yummy!

In light of COVID-19, the restaurant has also taken several measures to ensure hygiene! Mandatory hand sanitizing before entering the restaurant, and all cutlery are placed specially in a plastic bag.

To be honest, the chicken meat is quite little but since it is a restaurant.... I guess it is OK for $4.50. The chicken itself is very tender whole the rice is alright. Not very fragrant.

Chilli is the salty kind of chilli, not the spicy kind.

Enjoyed a homely tze-char style meal of Hainanese-Thai chicken rice at @goangsg and dishes like Thai Red Curry Chap Chye ($8) 😋 ⁣with the family

Although we ordered a Whole Chicken ($32), I love how affordable the chicken rice is at $4.50 for a plate of Single Portion Chicken Rice and $5.50 for a Single Portion Chicken Thigh Rice and they offer uniquely Thai dipping sauces (the dark soy sauce with chopped garlic and green chill).⁣

Awesome sauce with the tofu slices, I like that it’s slightly spicy too!!
