With the circuit breaker in full force now, we have to resort to takeaways or deliveries, but we can still occasionally indulge a little with the launch of the takeaway and delivery menus by the restaurants of Goodwood Park Hotel. Any mention of the Coffee Lounge and you will instantly relate to their Taiwan porridge spread, and now you can enjoy them at the comfort of your home as the restaurant has curated value-for-money bento boxes priced at $12.85 nett each. Pictured are Bento Box A and B, with the former comprising of sliced Toman fish with black bean sauce, fried omelette with silver fish, braised pork belly with dark soya sauce and stir-fried broccoli with garlic to go with a portion of thick and heaty rice porridge. The latter contains sautéed prawns with dried chilli, fried omelette with preserved radish, mui choy with pork and stir-fried nai bai vegetables with garlic. From Min Jiang, the restaurant has also put together a selected range of items from the dim sum and ala carte menu such as deep-fried yam pastry and fried rice with baby abalones and crab meat for takeaway or delivery. Another iconic item from the hotel, their signature durian puffs, are also available during the Durian Fiesta event.

These are my top two pastries from Goodwood Park Hotel’s Durian Fiesta, ongoing from now till 26 July 2020.

The cover photo shows their durian puffs, where swirls of D24 durian mousse is sandwiched between fluffy choux puffs. It's an affordable and decadent treat. With D24 durian this good, you won't miss MSW, until you caved in and order their other delectable MSW treats.

The second photo features their coffee petit cake, which is part of a larger D24 Party Squares consisting of 16 petit cakes with four popular flavours - D24 durian mousse with cream cheese, pandan coconut, coffee, or chocolate marquise. The coffee flavoured one pictured is like a durian tiramisu, with bitterness of coffee complementing the sweetness of durian perfectly.

Goodwood Park Hotel’s Durian Fiesta is back, with a new collection alongside perennial favourites.

I always struggle with the question - why not eat real durians? But these desserts showed me the answer. It's not just about using the finest D24 and MSW durians, which Goodwood Park did but went further. They handcrafted each pastry meticulously, and paired durians with delicate flavours such as pandan, fruits, peanut butter; lifted it with aroma of flowers or coffee; and layered the durians with textural contrast. I still love my pure durians, but these pastries offered something more, and different.

* D24 Summer Dream ($72 per 1kg cake, $12 per slice) - D24 durian mousse topped with grapes, blueberries, and edible flowers studded within glossy jelly;
* D24 Party Squares ($80 per 1kg cake, 16 pieces) - Sixteen petite cakes, four popular flavours - D24 durian mousse with cream cheese, pandan coconut, coffee, or chocolate marquise;
* D24 Nutty Delight ($20 per piece) - D24 durian mousse with liberal spread of crunchy peanut butter marshmallow;
* D24 Galaxy Ice Cream Roll ($62 whole roll / $15 per piece)- house-churned D24 durian ice cream enveloped in galaxy sponge;
* D24 Puff ($10++ for 2 pieces dine-in; or takeaway at $28 for six and $45 for ten pieces) - Swirls of D24 durian mousse is sandwiched between fluffy choux puffs.

It is a harmonious melange of nuttiness from the ground cashew nuts and caramelised notes of the gula melaka. It also comes with pretty icing in seven different symbolic designs.
