And this time round, in celebration of the event’s 38th anniversary this year, there will be new lineups of durian pastries together with the past favourites and signatures. With a total of six new creations, durian lovers can look forward to sweet treats such as the whole 7-inch D24 Pandan Waffle Cake ($85), D24 & Sweet Potato in Chestnut Tartlets (6 pieces for $48), D24 Trio Chocolate cake ($19/slice or $128 for 1.5kg), Mini D24 Salted Caramel Delights (6 pieces for $40) and D24 Kueh Dadar (2 pieces for $22), among the other durian collection such as the signature D24 Mousse Cake, D24 Puff and D24 Crepe. From the new collection, I will recommend both the D24 Salted Caramel Delights and D24 Kueh Dadar. The former has the balance of sweetness from the durian pulp while complementing with the savouriness from the salted caramel sauce over the almond sponge. The latter is perfect to go along a cup of hot tea/coffee as it it’s a modern rendition of the traditional kueh dadar; the pandan-flavour crepe containing a filling of durian pulp and freshly grated coconut that has been cooked with gula jawa.

However, that doesn’t stop us from celebrating this yuletide season with some festive eats. In 2020, Goodwood Park Hotel celebrates 120 years of history and for Christmas this year, the hotel will be launching festive takeaway sweets and savouries, available from 1-26 December 2020 as well as dining specials at the restaurants from 1 December 2020 to 2 January 2021.

Taking inspiration from the hotel’s heritage and iconic landmark, the display of sweets creations includes the Ivory Christmas Celebration Log Cake ($108), Christmas Holiday Cabin Log Cake ($82), Chocolate Nutty and Berries Tart ($68 for 8 pieces), and the signature durian dessert of the Goodwood Black Thorn Durian Christmas Log Cake ($88). The Christmas Holiday Cabin Log Cake pays homage to the hotel’s German roots with the classic Black Forest German cake that contains dark cherries in a chocolate sponge, layered with chocolate cream. The tarts are a sight to behold, with four different flavours with either a vanilla pastry cream filling or chocolate ganache.

For the Asian-inspired festive savouries, if there is something that you must order, it is the Har Cheong Turkey with Vegetable Rice ($118), accompanied with a homemade spicy Thai-style dip and scallion sour cream. Gone are the days whereby you get a grilled turkey with stuffing and to avoid choking on the dry meat, you must eat it with the sauce. What the hotel has done is to take half a turkey (approx. 2kg), portioned into 8 big pieces, marinate in a prawn paste mixture for 2 days before it is deep fried upon order. Instead of a grilled turkey, what you are getting is deep fried goodness with the umami prawn paste flavour that is complemented with the stir-fried vegetable rice and especially the tangy-spicy Thai dipping sauce.

The Orange with Grape snowskin mooncake is the latest creation from @goodwoodparkhotelsg.
Its very refreshing, citrusy mousse with juicy bites of red grape with crisp fruity notes.

This year’s new snowskin mooncake launches include the Japanese Sweet Potato with Pumpkin-Coconut Centre ($41 for 2pcs, $66 for 4 pcs) and Orange with Grape. The former has a velvety texture with a natural sweetness from the sweet potato while the pumpkin and desiccated coconut centre gives it a different textural mouthfeel and flavour. My favourite out of the two is the Orange with Grape ($37 for 2pcs, $58 for 4pcs), as this is leaning more towards the light and refreshing flavour with the citrus filling and bites of grapes in it.
