Went down for dinner at Guzaoren Taiwan Porridge with a friend in a weekday dinner and was definitely not disappointed - we ordered a few dishes with their refillable porridge (at only $1!) and loved the 梅菜扣肉 (braised pork belly with preserved mustard greens) as well as the salted egg pork. The hotplate beancurd and the cai poh omelette was done quite well too. Recommended for casual dinners or if you're craving zi char!

Had a great meal at Gu Zao Ren Taiwanese Porridge. The kampung chicken was tender, flavourful, and clearly well-prepared, while the Taiwanese porridge was smooth, comforting, and cooked just right. Simple, hearty dishes done really well, a great place for tze char too!

Food was delicious, this place combines two stores selling taiwanese porridge and chicken rice, so you get the best of both worlds. We got a delicious half kampung chicken from one side and also ordered fluffy Chai Po omelette and Mei Cai Kou Rou from the other. Definitely recommend this place if you want to try Zi Char in the east!

Had dinner at Gu Zao Ren and it was a satisfying old-school zi char experience overall. The caipoh hor fun was comforting and well-executed, with a nice wok-fried aroma and savoury cai poh that added depth without being overly salty. The oyster omelette had crispy edges with a soft, eggy centre, and the oysters were fresh and generous. We also enjoyed the baby kailan with scallops, the vegetables were crunchy and not overcooked, while the scallops were tender and naturally sweet. The prawn paste chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy inside, with a fragrant har cheong flavour that wasn’t overpowering. To round things off, the salted egg pork ribs were rich and indulgent, with a creamy salted egg sauce that coated the ribs evenly without being cloying. Overall, a solid spot for hearty zi char with good flavours and decent portions, great for group dinners or family gatherings when you’re craving comforting Chinese classics.

Heard great things about this zichar place so brought my friend to try some for dinner. Was surprised by how packed the place was on a Wednesday night! Food was very comforting and i strongly recommend the cockles! Staff were friendly and helpful too. Overall really nice experience and will probably bring my parents here to try sometime!

had a lovely dinner at gu zao ren taiwan porridge recently and thoroughly enjoyed my meal there! we ordered the sweet potato porridge, fried shrimp paste chicken, salted egg pork ribs, baby kailan with scallops, chai poh horfun and oyster omelette. every dish was good, but my favourite has to be the baby kailan! it was perfectly cooked in this fragrant garlic sauce and paired so well with the scallops. i highly recommend coming here if you’re craving zichar at an affordable price!
