Ikkousha Ramen specializes in hakata tonkotsu ramen from Hakata, Fukuoka. The thin noodles are made in-house and paired with pork cha-shu, flavored egg, fungus and spring onion in a thick and creamy pork broth.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Let me start off by saying I love ikkousha! I have been celebrating my birthdays there; slurping up their tonkotsu ramen and munching down on free gyozas (they offer a birthday promotion: feeding you as many gyozas as your age for free). However, I felt that this bowl was a lacklustre as I could barely taste the mentaiko, if any. I was expecting a flavour dance between the seafoody mentaiko and their creamy pork bone broth but boy was I disappointed. All I could taste was the tinge of spiciness that was mixed into the soup. Apart from the broth, everything else were great. The hakata style noodles were, as usual, cooked perfectly to my preference- firm. Pork slice was also tender and thin. Honestly, I would have given this an extra star or two if they had just named it spicy tonkotsu instead. Add more mentaiko please!

If you are a fan of thick and heavy tonkatsu ramen broth, this is the place for you! However, if you prefer lighter broths, other restaurants such as Ippudo might be more suitable for your ramen fix!

I will always get the Tonkatsu Special as you get five slices of meat and the hanjuku egg for only $17++, which is rather worthwhile in my opinion. Queue can be very long at mealtimes, so do be prepared to queue or visit at off-peak hours instead.

i chose โ€œvery hardโ€ for noodle texture and โ€œlightโ€ for the broth! ๐Ÿœ i would recommend to go normal for the broth because i feel the bowl lacked the thick meaty tonkatsu flavour i was looking for:(

really didnt enjoy the addition of the mentaiko. while it lended a very mild seafoody taste, the mentaiko could hardly be tasted and mostly added a incompatible spiciness that deviated from the japanese taste that i sought. the soup was thick and coated my tongue, unfortunately it didnt match what i look for :(

the noodles were quite nice - silky with a slight bite; but i can hardly imagine getting any lower than โ€œvery hardโ€ for noodle texture. the egg was pretty disappointing and inconsistent! across the table, there were plenty with molten yolks; unfortunately, mine wasnโ€™t one of them ๐Ÿฅบ definitely overcooked and bordering on hardboiled.

the pork was cut thin, tender and tasty though yumyum! recommend going for the tonkatsu broth (normal) instead, really much tastier and satisfying!

didnโ€™t want to overestimate my spice tolerance so i got a lvl 2 out of the 4 lvls๐Ÿคญ๐ŸŒถ โ€” would say itโ€™s comfortable!!! if u rly want a KICK then lvl 3&4 wld be shiok! ๐Ÿ‘„ the broth was really creamy and smooth,, but definitely on the oily side!๐Ÿ˜ณ pretty heavy broth so i didnโ€™t finish it! on the other hand, if u love extra thin ramen noodles, this is the place!!! since we got to choose our ramen texture, i got hard (it softens aft a while so it wld be just nice by then!) MMMM IT WAS GOOD! pretty similar to ichiran type ramen (if you have tried that), since they are all hakata style ramen!๐Ÿœ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿœ chashu was super tender and soft so ๐Ÿ˜‹

this place donโ€™t do reservations so if you wna try, go early!!! i went there at around 7.30pm and man it was a 20-30 mins wait? ๐Ÿคญ

From Hakata Ikkousha
Look at that viscous broth, unforgettable texture of sliced meat and yummy ramen.
Definitely satisfying meal, with eggs of course...

Worth the queue!
