Cold dishes mix with their Mala spicy sauce, you can choose from lots of items here to include in your grab and go cup.

First had 串串 in Guangzhou last year and have been hoping to have them again, so I was super excited to see this new stall up in the food area just outside People’s Park Complex (aka where you find all sorts of China Chinese dishes). The skewers at Happy Cat are $1 for each meat skewer and $1.50 for every 2 vegetable skewers.

Grab a cup, pick the skewers you want and the servers will help to dip them into a spicy sauce. Most skewers I had in Guangzhou gave an option of a hot or cold dip, but this was only available cold. However, while I liked the freshness of the ingredients and the ‘numbness’ of the spicy dip, thought the dip could be a lot more fragrant and I would have preferred lesser sesame sauce in the mix.

Loved the Taiwanese sausages, the crisp sliced lotus roots and potatoes!

Good addictive mala sauce that is Super numbing. Best if could customise the level of spiciness but there is only one flavour and level of spiciness now.

Feel like the Malaysia Lok Lok where you choose your skewers for the person to cook them for you. But in this place, it is dipped into mala sauce and served cold.

It’s like to-go place for mala on a hot day. This mala is legit, makes my lips Super numb after eating. Addictive though!

Newly opened, this mala snack joint is located amongst the cluster of street food pop-up booths next to people’s park complex (where the various stalls selling gigantic mantou’s are at, you’ll know what I mean).

It was surprisingly good! Pick and choose from a decent selection of fresh ingredients ($1.50 per two sticks of vege, $1 per stick of meat) and the stall owner will dip it in this cold mala sauce, which is super mouth-numbing, full of sesame seeds for that extra nutty flavour, not too spicy and flavourful. Very shiok for a snack, especially when you’re craving mala on a hot day.

Only qualm is that the portion was quite measly for the amount we paid, and also no carbs here so probably not feasible as a meal on its own.

$4.0 for 5 sticks of assorted vegtables and meat; specifically, lotus, oyster mushroom, taiwan sausage, dried tofu skin and cheese fishcake. The lotus was fresh and crunchy, and the other ingredients were nicely cooked! The mala oil was extremely strong and fragrant, so much so that a stranger could smell it and claimes that she wanted to get it later too! A very delicious street snack that I will definitely recommend :)
