Reviews

From the Burpple community

Filled with durian, Gong Tang (pound peanut candy), peanut brittle, ice gem biscuit, gula melaka and coconut ice-cream
.
Surprisingly, the durian is soft and silky. The silky durian complimented the crunchiness of the peanut brittle and ice-gem biscuit, sweetness from the gula melaka and refreshing coconut ice-cream
.

Popiah with a modern twist
.
Rainbow filling (consisting of 7 fillings - turnip, cabbage, carrot, french beans, bamboo shoots, garlic and yellow beancurd), crispy chicken skin and salted egg sauce
.
The aromatic salted egg sauce managed to add a creamy savoury burst of flavour, and without overwhelming the sweetness of the rainbow filling
.

Popiah with a modern twist
.
Rainbow filling (consisting of 7 fillings - turnip, cabbage, carrot, french beans, bamboo shoots, garlic and yellow beancurd), nori, chicken floss and mayo
.
The difference is that beneath the popiah skin is a sheet of nori seaweed which was laid under it to imitate the maki sushi
.
Chicken floss adds an interesting texture while the mayo manages to add some sweetness to the popiah
.

Popiah with a Korean twist
.
Rainbow filling (consisting of 7 fillings - turnip, cabbage, carrot, french beans, bamboo shoots, garlic and yellow beancurd), chicken karage, cheese and kimslaw
.
The kimslaw adds a nice sourish note to the popiah
.

"bibimbap" -- teriyaki karaage, poached egg, rainbow filling, bean sprout, kimslaw & fresh leek on a bed of fragrant rice.

Hawkerman is definitely my kind of Superhero!

For first timers to Hawkerman, I would suggest you to order the Bao-Ka-liao platter ($32.90++) that serves 2 to 3 pax and it includes 7 items such as Tenderfresh's Signature Crispy Fried Half Spring Chicken, Hokkien Mee, Popiah, XO Carrot Cake etc. Everything especially the hokkien mee is best eaten when it's hot. Value for money platter that allows you to sample a wide variety of hawker food.

Another fav dish of mine is the Yuan Yang Carrot Cake ($6.90) which is essentially carbonara styled carrot cake with turkey bacon and XO sauce carrot cake. When it's eaten hot, it's really shiok!

Thanks @singaporefoodlisting for the invitation and @hawkermansg for having us!
