Cozy and quaint outlet along the ever-popular Katong stretch, I always like to benchmark every new ice cream outlet using their pistachio ice cream (if they offer it), and boy did Hay Gelato easily break into the top 5 of my list. Intense and oh-so-nutty, with the added crunch from the pistachio bits sprinkled, this was pistachio heaven on earth.

Got this at the Singapore Food Festival but you can also enjoy this flavour at their permanent outlet. Hojicha ice cream was average - you can taste the roasted tea but the texture was more thin and powdery as opposed to the thick creamy texture of gelato that I personally prefer. I liked that it comes with rice puffs on the top for an extra crunch.

This is one aesthetically beautiful shop at Bedok serving pretty nice gelato. Small space but a very comfortable area to enjoy your gelato.

The balsamic strawberry strong in its taste on the sweet side.

waffle : $5, ice cream : $4.20 (+$1 for premium)

7.5/10
i actually quite like the waffle! it was quite flaky (not a bad thing) actually as compared to others ive tried before but not a problem just visually weird for me HAHHA. the waffle was not dry but a little plain, ik its just a waffle but maybe the sauce can drizzle more!! i think the orange syrup in pic (bottom) is caramel which went rlly well i loved it

however, i didnt really like the ice cream. i got strawberry balsamic (i think?) and it tastes like a cold version of strawberry fruit plus LOL 😶 i rlly wanted to try pistachio after seeing the other reviews but they didnt have it that day :')

overall the ambience of the cafe was great, music was chill and had both inside and outside seats to sit and eat! if i stayed nearby i wld deffo come back but i stay in the west so... 😁😁😁

Hay Gelato is a simple ice cream shop located under a block of flats in the Bedok North area and it's location isn't exactly the best, as you need at least a 10-minute walk from either Bedok Reservoir or Bedok MRT to get there! That being said, we decided to try it as we were in the area and we ordered a waffle, with a scoop of soursop and Hojicha ice creams!

The waffle was really generous and it was really thick so it can get pretty filling! However, we really like the crisp exterior and you can certainly hear the crunch with every bite. The waffle was served atop a layer of maple syrup on the plate, and the two went together pretty well even without the ice cream!

The soursop ice cream really tasted like soursop and we were glad to try it as it isn't a very common flavour. However, it melts very fast so you should take note to eat it quickly! The hojicha ice cream also had a fairly strong taste of roasted tea and it was very interesting that the scoop was topped with rice crackers too. That being said, perhaps we shouldn't have paired the two flavours together as the flavours were pretty conflicting - a sweet-tasting scoop and a burnt scoop don't go too well together. 😂

We paid $14 in total, which is a pretty average price for a waffle with two scoops of ice cream! We would be back to try their other more interesting flavours in future.

Hay gelato is a tiny brick-and-mortar shop along Bedok North serving creative gelato by the folks behind Brine. The shop is simple and beautifully decorated with flowers. There is also limited seating space both indoors and outdoors but that does not deter anyone from takeaways.

What makes them different from others is the different toppings added to every scoop. I ordered their earl grey lavender topped with rice crisps and roasted pistachio topped with bits of nutty pistachio. The earl grey lavender is light in flavour with a refreshing and nice floral fragrance while the pistachio is stronger in flavour, not too sweet with lots of nutty business going on in there. I reckon I got the right combinations where both flavours kind of balance one another.
