Holy crap this is one of the best fried tofu dishes I’ve ever had! Super soft egg tofu that is freshly fried upon order, soaked in a delicious sauce and topped with fried shallots omg 😩

The smoothness of the Congee was impressive. Super hot. Had to wait for ages before I could actually eat it. Loads of pork slices so tender I could mistake it for chicken thigh. They were generous with the amt of fried shallots and spring onion, which was really important to me cos they elevated the taste of the porridge. Even a non porridge lover like me could finish half a bowl easily.

The fried prawn in beancurd skin was nice. Plump bouncy prawns with pork in crispy beancurd skin created different textures that I enjoyed. The Ngor Hiang was not quite as good. It was packed full of liao but the meat was a bit hard.

There was basically no queue. Only 1 pax in front of me.

Was trying to decide between Zhen Zhen and He Ji Porridge. After all, makansutra awarded Zhen Zhen with full marks.

But I finally settled for He Ji after watching Food King (by NOC).

Like what the NOC hosts said, the porridge was really flavourful! Even the plain porridge was really flavourful. There's no need to add more seasoning to the porridge. The fried shallots were great! The stall made the fried shallots themselves and they are generous with the chopped spring onion and shallots.

The sauce for the claypot kung pao frog legs was really savoury.

Three items were ordered:
1) Plain porridge
2) Sliced Pork porridge with egg
3) Claypot Kung Pao Frog legs (1 frog)
Total cost: $13.50

Homemade Tofu ($4)

One of the best comfort food for supper. This bowl of fried homemade tofu by ho kee porridge stall at maxwell food centre. I missed the days the condiments were self-service and I could put as much of the caramelized shallots on the tofu as I desired. So sinful but satisfyingly delicious😋!

Opened till 4am on Fridays and Saturdays, this stalwart at Maxwell Food Centre is the place to hit up a bowl of comforting porridge after painting the town red. You won't go wrong with the classic Sliced Pork Porridge ($3.50), which Tastemaker Irene Arieputri describes to be smooth and thick, generous with the pork and really fragrant thanks to the addition of sesame oil. Pair that with the Braised Tofu ($3.50) —handmade tofu deep-fried till golden brown, slicked in soy sauce and topped with shallots and spring onion. The tofu is soft and silky, and the flavours pair really well with the porridge.
Avg price: $5 per person
