Yes - squares! These handmade carrot cake are diced into nice little cubes, mixed with egg and preserved radish, then fried to a crisp! They’re then split into large squares (instead of individual cubes) for that substantial mouth-bite! Is it worth the 20-mins wait? Yes it does! For one, the eggy fragrance was strong - love how the owner is generous with the use of egg and preserved radish!

I ordered the smallest size, and got quite a big portion for the price. I love it that it was soft and filled with plenty of fluffy egg, while the top was brown and crisp. There’s chye poh scattered in that gives it a little crunch. I would have preferred it less oily and with more radish rather than flour, but overall it’s a very good carrot cake. I read online that the wait time is long, but I went at 12pm on a rainy Saturday and there was no queue.

Usually a fan of the black carrot cake but the white carrot cake at He Zhong with a dash of chilli is definitely delicious.

However, the owner's son taking the orders isn't that friendly. Probably stressed up with coping the huge number of orders.

My all time favourite carrot cake for only $3. Nice slight crisp eggy outer layer with a delicious interior filled with the cake and preserved radish bits.

Cheap and good.

Egg was crispy, and portion is rather large for $3.

One of the best food here at bukit timah market.

High hopes from the good reviews and long waiting time (~30 min on a weekday afternoon), and thankfully this didn’t disappoint! Loved the huge cubes of radish that was tastefully fried with golden brown egg! And comes in a variety of sizes ($2.50/3/4/5) with new faces of young hawkers manning the stall! Only gripe with this plate of goodness would be the lack of chye poh, but other than that a pretty well fried plate of carrot cake! 👍🏻👍🏻
