With over 70 years of history, this legendary stall has cultivated a loyal following for their Chinese Teochew style braised duck (no, they no longer sell goose ever since it was banned in Singapore).
.
The secret is in the sauce - a dark, unctuous blend of soy and herbs, potent and robust with salty savoury herbal earthy flavour. Best paired with fluffy white rice.
.
Their duck is sliced thick, firm yet tender with a deep taste of the gravy, yet you still distinctly taste the natural meaty savoury flavour of the duck. Good fatty to lean ratio. Served with crunchy sliced cucumbers whose vegetal sweet notes contrast nicely.
.
Completed with a robust warm broth made with the same delicious braising gravy as the base.

Why is this so popular? It's so bad! Every element was mediocre, I don't wanna waste my breath. Also, where's the goose? I thought Singapore no goose.

Duck could be just a tad tender(I got all breast), and the portion is small for the standard size

Nonetheless, the braising sauce was quite intense and it's savoury(not sweet at all). No wonder it draws a queue up until 30mins before they close. Chili was completely tangy, not very good on its own but works well with the savoury sauce

Finally made the return to Tekka Centre for the very first time since Phase 2; decided to go for this since it’s been quite a long time since I have last had it considering the usual queues and then being seemingly closed on the days when I make my visit there.

While some may lament the fact that they do not serve their Braised Duck Rice with Yam Rice here, the white rice allows their braised sauce and the accompanying chili to shine. The meat that is served on the day that this photo was taken was a little bit on the boney side, though there are times that they are pretty plump and meaty — that being said, I always liked how their duck has always been tender and succulent without any undesirable gaminess and grainy texture; all savoury whilst drenched in their delicious braised gravy that is saltish enough but with a clean finish and hints of the various spices used in its preparation. The braised gravy is so enjoyable I often find myself drenching the rice with the remaining gravy, which works great with their chili that pairs well with the gravy being all zippy and carrying a sourish tang that resets the taste buds.

Comes with a bowl of soup on the side as well (not pictured), which provides a slight herbal note that is pretty refreshing for those who enjoy such soups too!

Old school Teochew braised duck which is less common these days as compared to the sweeter gooey version. The meat is tender, well braised and savory. The braised gravy is the watery version but is a flavor bomb and savory. Have it with rice.

Price: $3.50

It has got to be one of the best braised duck rice I’ve had. The dark sauce on the white rice was so fragrant and I would slurp it up with a scoop of the herbal soup that comes with it. The duck meat although portion’s small, wasn’t dry. Instead, it was moist and tender. I’ve already had this twice in a week 😂
