緣味古早味現烤蛋糕 (淡水老街店)

If you are making a visit to Tamsui/Danshui 淡水老街, PLEASE DON'T LEAVE WITHOUT GETTING THIS. This wasn't initially in my 'to get' list, but the constant sweet bakery smell lingering in the air and the endless long queues intrigued us to head over to see what's the hype about. Turns out, it was one of the top snacks I've had in Taiwan. For real! A whole huge slab of freshly in-house baked cake for just $4.35? Take my moolah please!

Each tray of cake once ready, is carefully measured with a metal ruler and cut into equal portioned slabs before sale. Because of its huge size, knives are also provided together with each box. As with its looks, it was mind-blowingly fluffy yet firm to the bite with savoury golden cheese oozing out from every side, perfectly balancing out the sweet tasting cake. As with the long queues, you're sure to get your cake fresh and warm.

If you're not into cheese, you'll be happy to know that they do offer this in its original flavour only at NT$80 (S$3.50)! Also, it's strategically located just across the famous Ah Po Iron Eggs 阿婆铁蛋.
