The roast meat over here is highly raved and we ordered all meat available so that we don’t miss out on any. Our combo platter includes roast pork, char siew and roast duck drumstick.

The roast pork is thickly sliced with layers of tender, juicy meat and fats with crispy crackling skin. The char siew was chunky and juicy with a nice caramelised glaze and a charred exterior. I read reviews that their cuts are usually fatty hence I requested mine to be less fat and leaner cut. It was extremely soft and tender, not dry and tough at all. The roast duck drumstick was well seasoned, not gamey, tender and juicy with a crispy golden brown skin.

I would suggest pairing those meats with noodles over rice. The noodles are cooked al-dente, well flavoured with hints of pepper, pork lard oil and crispy pork lard. It’s just too difficult to decide which is the best but I’ll say the porky wins the ducky.

I have always been a fan of wantons and soups. So this dish was an utter delight to me. A bit of the oily side, both the broth and wantons were flavourful.

Oh! The char siew pork was so very tasty. It was melt in the mouth with just the right amount of sweet and spice. It think it is a must have.

Rice @ $0.50

Very good and flavourful meats. The charsiew is our favourite and we think it's been roasted multiple times to achieve the flavour it has. The siew yoke is nice too but has a bit too much fats. The roasted duck is also just nice.

The veggie though is just boiled like how it's usually done at such places, the sauce and garlic bits give it a nice taste and texture. And we had nai bai which are shorter stalks so easier to bite also.

We also love the rice here, it's a bit dry which is how we like it and the sauce has a unique and really nice taste to it.

Will definitely be back.

Char Siew & Roasted Pork ($16/ 2 pax)
Tried their Roasted Meat twice, and to date, it's still my favourite Roasted Pork. The Roasted Pork is really crispy, even after takeaway and only eating after quite a few hours. Char Siew also had the good amount of fat to meat ratio, with a nice glaze and flavour. Only qualm is that their meat is slightly pricey, but I'd still visit for the quality.

Overall Rating: 8/10

*Heard there's some inconsistencies in quality sometimes, but the 2 times I've tried it was still good!

I’m sure you probably have tried @88hongkongroastmeatspecialist if you’re a roasted meat fan just like me. Located in the Lavender/ Jalan Besar area, they are not to be missed as there’s always a long queue for their Cantonese roasts. You can have your roasted meat with rice or noodles though we just went for the meat as we had a heavy breakfast. We paid $16 in total for this plate of meat that’s roasted in charcoal.

My ideal type of char siew. A caramelised, charred exterior with a tinge of sweetness from the marinade. And be treated to meat that’s so tender. They have lean and fatty cuts of char siew available but fatty cuts are served by default.

I’m a great fan of fatty char siew and the fat to meat ratio is perfect. It’s so delicious that I’m willing to let the fat clog my arteries.
