Gosh! This has got to be the largest prawn dumpling I have ever had.

I realised that there are actually 3 full prawns 🍤 🍤 🍤, sliced black fungus and minced meat packed within the mammoth size dumpling. And every bite gives an excellent crunchy texture and is packed full of flavours! 😲

Long waiting time, approximately 40mins on a Sunday lunch time.

The chicken was soft and tender, really got standard.

Their noodles were ok. Chicken is the star of the show here.

Arrived at 11.10am and I was already #11 on the queue. Ordered their soya sauce chicken noodles and shrimp dumpling soup for take away and collected my order at 11.45am. Long wait.

The noodles were al dente and the chicken was good but the real gem was the shrimp dumpling soup. Because they packed the dumplings separate from the soup (no extra charge), the dumplings were still one piece and had a firm bite when I got home. There were two small shrimps inside each piece and you get strips of black fungus which provided an extra crunchiness to the dumplings. The chilli sauce (normally meant for the chicken rice but I got some) went well with the noodles. It had quite a bit of heat in it and the tanginess went well with the sweet chicken.

They serve glutinous rice, Chee Cheong Fun and beef brisket noodles on weekends so definitely coming back to try those after this round of lockdown.

Soya sauce chicken noodles @ $4.50 (cuz it's drumstick)

Good things are worth the wait. This one was more than 45mins and maybe will reconsider in the future.

The food is great, noodles have got good texture and the chicken is really tasty.

But they might do better with a better queue system so that customers can wait in peace at their table instead of being with other flustered people.

Thigh chicken rice @$4.00

Chilli very spicy, not salty.

Chicken meat is soft and tender.

On the top floor of Beauty World Centre is a hawker centre that has quite a number of noteworthy stalls. Besides the famous Top One Handmade Noodle, there’s a stall that sells pretty good soy sauce chicken rice and noodles. Add on their dumplings too.

For $3.80, be treated to a plate of Hong Kong-style noodles with succulent soy sauce chicken slices that’s been marinated in a blend of herbs and spices, rose wine and soy sauce. I love how fragrant and tender the chicken breast. It’s a plus as it’s common for chicken breast can be tough and dry for soy sauce chicken.

The noodles itself weren’t too bad. Although not the most springy, it definitely wasn’t soft and soggy either. It’s doused with soy sauce and chilli sauce.

I added some dumplings ($1.20). They are handmade every day by the stallholder and they’re so plump and flavourful. Stuffed with loads of shrimp, minced pork and black fungus, any prawn lovers will love this.

Cash only.

Absolutely a hidden gem at Beauty World Food Centre. Among the different cooking styles of chicken, soya sauce chicken has never been on the top of my favourite list. But this particular one had a perfect balance of sauce, colour, tenderness. Look at the alluring brown glaze on the chicken skin and the tender, juicy meat that fell off the bone so easily. Something that I really like about the noodles here, bouncy without a strong alkaline taste. Remember to toss some fragrant sambal chili with the noodles! Cheap and good, definitely under the radar.

Rice this time was quite mushy. But the chicken is still decently done with the right amount of juiciness in each bite.

Annie’s soya sauce chicken thighs are incredibly tender, but so are the chicken breasts.

At $3, which is around the usual chicken rice price, this was rather decent but nothing extraordinary. The chilli was surprisingly spicy and I loved that, but it could have been more balanced.

This 水饺面 was pretty tasty and the noodles were QQ in texture. Their chilli had “chicken rice chilli” standard and it went really well with the noodles and dumplings. The shrimp dumplings were plump and filled generously with fresh and succulent prawns, pork meat and black fungus that were lightly seasoned. Comes with vegetables and a bowl of soup. My tummy was satisfied! 😋

I'm so happy that the stalls are returning back to this dingy, run-down but homely food centre on the top of Beauty World Centre.
Take this Hong Kong soya sauce chicken, solid, and very tender chicken, on a plate of chicken rice. The skin is so succulent and flavourful, with that I wished I had more. The sauce, thick and well-balanced goes well with their spicy Chili sauce that many seemed to take a lot.
I asked for one dumpling to be added to the soup, and I did not regret that $1.10/pc dumpling. Filled to the brim with crunchy prawn pieces (I counted to at least 4 big chunky pieces), black fungus and minced meat. Every bite send joy to the bones, and I can see why many add another bowl of dumpling soup when they order.

It's Beauty World (Food Centre) once more ...

Thursday afternoon classes at lunch hour means Bukit Timah would have to be the lunch destination; got the chance to visit the Food Centre where the tenants would have to move out pretty soon with notable tenants such as Hambaobao and Buta Kin already closed — it feels like the place got transported back to the days where the crowd at the food centre is significantly less hipster. Went with the trusty Soya Sauce Chicken Noodle from the Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodles stall; thick cuts of chicken that is reasonably succulent and dry with a savoury and smooth skin, served with noodles tossed in sauce and chili — no doubt not the best around but oh-so-satisfying. Overheard auntie saying she might not even open over the weekend, and already has booked tickets for holidays after she is done with the business ...

Went for the stall with the longest queue at Beauty World Food Centre and surely this did not disappoint. Asked for breast meat for the chicken, and found it to be surprisingly tender and succulent without being too dry; not the best I have had but still one of the better ones, with thick soya sauce flavouring the chicken. Noodles were rather springy, tossed in a savoury sauce, soaking the goodness with moderate heat coming from the chili. Pretty much worth the wait!
