If you’ve been to Pek Kio Market, you’d realise that there’s a couple of stores with snaking long queues and would have wondered what so good about them.

One of these stalls would be Pin Wei HK Style CCF. Perhaps one of the many few stores that I’d willing queue, even though the queuing time takes longer than my eating time.

Located in the middle aisle of the hawker centre, Pin Wei offers 4 types of CCF - original, Char Siew ($3.50), Prawn ($3.80) & Scallop ($5.50).

What I enjoy the most was how each piece was handmade upon order, and you can watch the cook do his magic by creating these thin, translucent & silky pieces of rice flour rolls.

Each plate comes with 2 ladies worth of sweet soy sauce, and a dollop of sweet chilli on the side if you’d prefer some kick.

If you’d like to make your queueing worth the wait, I suggest ordering all 4 (if you can stomach it), or bring more friends along to try more options!

I think whether you'll like this dish depends on whether you like your chee cheong fun soft or slightly chewy. I prefer chewy chee cheong fun, so this wasn't my cup of tea. That being said, it was really fragrant and soft so go for it if thats what you like! Be prepared to queue for at least 20mins

This chee cheong fan was silky and doused generously in a rather sweet light soya sauce with sesame oil and topped with lots of sesame seeds. The sauce may be a bit sweet for others, but I quite liked it. My parents also enjoyed the chilli that they have. They make each sheet freshly, steam it, and roll it up, so it was quite a wait (about 30 mins) and it’s exacerbated by the fact that people tend to order 5 plates or even take away 10 packets! Still, worth it if you have time and patience.

The prawns in this were fresh and crunchy, and I preferred it over the char siew one that I took away, because the char siew was a bit too sweet when coupled with the soya sauce. It’s stall 01-25 at Pek Kio Hawker Centre if you wanna try it out!

Chee Cheong Fun

Been having shrimp Chee cheong fun (~$4) from Pin Wei Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong fun ever since I moved near 5 years ago, and I still love it now 😋 Rice flour rolls are really smooth and easy to eat, almost gliding down your throat 😍 Shrimp was fresh and juicy, and soya sauce was slightly too salty but still good.

This humble chee cheong fun stalls commands a consistently long queue and for good reason. Their steamed rice rolls are fresh, silky smooth and dressed with a savory-sweet soy sauce. There are only 4 options on their menu—plain, char siew, prawn and scallop.

I loved everything about this from the textures to the clean yet comforting flavors. The prawns were crunchy and fresh, and the char siew was nicely caramelized with prominent charred flavour. I did, however, prefer the version with prawn as the char siew was too finely minced up. If you’re asked whether you’d like sambal to be added, don’t decline. You’ll be sorry if you did.
