A quaint old world cafe with the most fabulous cakes. Even though we were early for lunch there was already a line at the cafe so be prepared to wait. It is not a big cafe and it is rather cramped but o so reminiscent of cafes in Europe. I wanted the signature pinwheel sandwich but it was sold out. In the end I had the crab salad and my son had the duck. Both very good. The chocolate gateaux for dessert was absolutely yummy. The service is excellent and staff very friendly. Will go back again perhaps for the high tea. #maneklady #manekeats #manektravels

The cheese is light, wasn't as heavy as I thought but the layers of sponge cake was hard. Overhyped.

You definitely need to go at least 3 times to try everything on the glass display.

With more than 100 years of history, Hopetoun Tea Rooms is the must-go place near Collins street if you are a HUGE cakes and tarts fan. Everything you see there is freshly baked in the morning and sold out by end day. Expect long queue. Must try: Pavlova (of course) and Apple pie (with berries).

The building is called the Block Arcade that was bought for only 18 pounds in 1891. Back then, a small tea room was set up for the Victorian Ladies Work Association. The arcade has since been refurbished whilst maintaining the rich history.

The Hopetoun Tearoom was named after its founder Lady Hopetoun. Here you find numerous variations of cakes and bakes. A daily high tea consisting of 3 tiers is also available at A$50 per pax. I understand that reservations must be made 3 mths in advance.

With beautiful last century decor, this is the place to see and be seen.

Green colored wallpaper. Chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. 🔹🔸
We just had to taste the cakes before leaving. This is the lemon tart. Loving the vibrant yellow, the buttery base and the custard that was abit firm, tangy and sourish. Fresh cream at the side to tone down the acidity. Eating the tart will certainly whets the appetite. It is refreshing and had a very "sunshine" bursts on the palate.

Hopetoun is so very popular and queues actually start forming from the moment they open at 8am. It is quite a small crammed space. But looking at the beautiful cakes on display are more than enough to make you drool and queue for a table. I love it and prolly wont forget it. At least I could say "been there and done that at the oldest tearoom in Melbourne". If you ever visit Melbourne, this is a"must try must go" place.
