Happy lunch at House of Happiness, Simpang Bedok.
16 hours slow cooked teriyaki pork jowl claypot rice with onsen egg, tobiko and ikura was hearty and broiled to perfection. The lor bak was soft and tender, not too salty yet a tad too oily. Bakchoy was served with fried garlic but too oily as well. Kudos to 3 kinds of chilli served but not spicy enough for me. Overall a more unique and good lunch.
Rating : 3.75/5

The braising sauce is lighter and sweeter compare to their lor bak.

The braised pork belly (lorbak) so tender the fats melt in your mouth, without any oily feel.

The slow braised trotter has a generous portion of fat that is smooth n just a bit chewy in texture.
Both were braised in dark sauce but each had its own unique flavour.

@house_of_happiness_sg offers creative twist to claypot dishes where diners get to try unique combinations of this local delight. We had teriyaki pork jowl (S$7) and pork lard bacon with furikake (S$7). Perhaps in an attempt to reduce cooking time to feed hungry diners like me, I personally find the flavour from the ingredients did not seep much into the rice and there was a lack of β€œwohei” a good claypot shld have. But on a whole, the claypot dishes are still enjoyable. The star for me gotta be its elder sibling β€”> signature lor bak ($9)! Super tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture that makes you go mmmmmmmm. Love that they also offer three types of chilli to go with your food. You got me there! πŸ€ͺ

12 hrs slow braised Pork trotter

Note: Meat to fat ratio was well balanced with superb work done to prepare it.

Claypot rice with Lorbak, Onsen egg, Shanghai Green

Note: lorbak is well braised with tender meat. Onsen egg is well accompanied by the sauce. Good choice to order this as well!
