Hvala ran out of dirty genmaicha by mid afternoon on a weekday, so we grudgingly opted for a matcha hojicha latte ($5.80+) instead. It is thick and lightly sweetened, with a lingering bitter finish. Pity that the hojicha is not very evident. Portion is a tad small but it is very satisfying!

Previously my sister takeaway their cake from online during June and the cake was being sticking on box and still can stable after long journey. I didn't expected that they didn't put the tape on the cake to prevent wobbling. Probably I had been overlooked again ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™ƒ and u all should be buying cake before heading to home. But Matcha Mont Blanc ($8.80) managed to survive the journey from city hall -> dhoby ghaut -> somerset but Miso Maple Gelatu ($8.80) went out of shape from mountain shaped to disfigured cake. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ my father managed to scoop the remaining of the cake from box to plate. I really like Matcha Mont Blanc got not that bitter taste and a bit nutty aftertaste. But I felt Miso Maple Gelatu was quite sweet aftertaste but complemented well with Matcha Mont Blanc. I didn't see Mont Noir (Black Sesame) at the cake counter that time so anyone can tell me when they restocked the cake again. Thank you so much ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘ˆ

If you have taste most of their matcha series, you should start to explore their tea series also.

For their signature white tea, this is the full-bodied tea, with a floral nose and long-lasting gentle sweetness of white flowers. Made in Fuding, with large tea leaves compressed into cakes, the flavour develops over time. $6.8+

Firstly the ambience at the store was so calming and nice. Secondly, their matcha is so damn good especially for its price. My friends and i wanted to try the matcha petite gateau ($8.80) becausw first of all super good marketing, i was enticed by the description of the cake alone. And second of all, the description doesnโ€™t lie. The different textures in the cake makes it so good and the flavour of the matcha ofcourse made it even better. Super smooth and fragrant. The bitterness of the matcha gently carresses your tongue and gives you a matcha orgasm. My only issue with the cake is i couldnt really taste the matcha crumble but its okay. This cake was still delicious (or i could just be a biased matcha lover)

We also got the matcha lattes. We got the yuki matcha latte ($5.80) which used a premium grade matcha. Super smooth and thick and gao but not overpowering and jelak as well. The matcha houjicha latte ($5.80) was also super balanced. The houjicha flavour was not as strong and may have slightly been overpowered by the strong matcha fragrance and flavour but i could definitely taste the subtlty of the roasted โ€œburntโ€ flavour within the drink which made it even better. The dirty genmaicha latte ($5.80) was a matcha and espresso latte. I seem to have an impression that it would be very heaty from my experiences with the matcha espresso drink from starbucks last time. But this is different. It smells close to the starbucks variation of it but tastes worlds apart. As cliche as this sounds, there was really a perfect balance between the matcha and coffee flavours. Neither overpowers the other. i like how i could taste the flavour of one of the elements in the drink and the next second, the other flavour would hit your tongue. And its just a tea and coffee party in your mouth.

A further plus point is how affordable the lattes are for the amount they give you. The cups were comprable to a starbucks venti or even larger. And not cos they had a heaping amount of uce either. The amount of ice was just right to keep the drink cold but not dilute it once the ice melted. Would come back here again.

Really good and punchy black sesame flavour of the ice cream. One of the best I have tried so far. Also their other green tea flavours are popular with my family and friends. Highly recommend their ice cream everytime.

[Matcha or Hojicha, why not both? โ˜บ๏ธ]

This is the nearest I can get to replace my grad trip to Japan this summer~ ๐Ÿ˜†Visiting Hvala has always been a norm for me, either their takeout at 313 Somerset basement or dine-in at Orchard/Chijmes, and I'm glad that their quality remains โ˜บ๏ธ
