Hvala (CHIJMES)

Over here at Hvala, they churned three different types of dairy-free matcha gelato ranging from Matcha°1 with the lightest intensity of matcha to Matcha°3 with the strongest intensity of matcha.

I went with the popular choice of Matcha°2 with medium-intensity of matcha. It was thick, creamy and rich in flavour which was good enough for me without being too sweet while maintaining the slight bitterness of matcha 》$6.90

Warabimochi was perfectly soft and chewy, a nice accompaniment to the gelato. We chose to add on a dollar for the premium Caramelised Sobacha - oatmilk gelato with soba bits which lent a nice texture.

A magical cake with 3 distinct layers of soft fudge, velvety custard and airy chiffon. Served with a quenelle of matcha cookies and cream gelato, sprinkled with matcha crumble

w/ Rockmelon Sorbet

Loveee the toasted rice bits that they sprinkle on - it’s crunchy and has a nice roasty flavour. Was very lightly grainy, but I liked the flavour as it wasn’t very gao but still discernibly genmaicha / not too milky. Probably not for the matcha purists? Preferred this over their iced hojicha!

Sponge layers were soft and moist, enjoyed the smooth chocolate mousse and cherry compote for a complementary fruity flavour. It’s nice but it’s not one of their more exciting cakes, my bf remarked that it felt a bit flat - maybe a crunch element / additional components would brighten things up!
