From Imperial Fish within Food Junction at Junction 8; opened by the same folks behind 13 Stages, Imperial Fish is a new food court stall that serves up mainly steamed seabass and fried seabass with a variety of different sauces/toppings, as well as fish soup and seafood soup.

Going for something simple, the Soy Ginger Steamed Seabass requires a little bit of waiting time for its preparation but it’s pretty worth the wait — the steamed seabass itself comes in a fillet form so it is pretty easy to eat, while the flesh remains juicy and succulent. Topped with a soy ginger sauce, the sauce itself adds a light savouriness with the ginger providing a bright note — not only provides flavour to the otherwise plain fish, but also a great accompaniment to the rice itself. The dish comes with clams as well; personally felt that the addition is not quite necessary considering they do feel like a separate element on its own, but good to have considering it’s price point at $8.90 and were pretty fresh. Definitely something I would not mind having again if I were to be in the area again.

I was having a scratchy throat a couple of weeks ago and decided to have the clear fish soup from Imperial Fish instead of my usual indonesian BBQ or Fu Xiang at the Nex.

I ordered an upsized bowl of sliced fish soup and the portions are meagre at best even for an upsized bowl. The sliced fish did not taste particularly fresh and was dry and a little "fishy". The soup broth was decent though.

I think what was more galling was how the boss gave the customer before me a dirty eye for taking some time to dig out coins for payment.

The food and service attitude definitely needs some improvement.
