I'm sorry I can't remember the Japanese name for this. It's a stick of meat drenched in sauces, bonito flakes and seaweed. It's so-so. I don't think it's a permanent kiosk.

Sent to fuwa-fuwa heaven! Tokyo-based Sakanoue Cafe’s pop-up came at a perfect time as I was in somewhat of a post-travel blues (and there because everyone who's anyone has already visited the place). I got their Friday (3rd March) daily special, Pistachio Raspberries Kakigori ($13), and boy did it deliver. Delicately nutty, with pops of tanginess and sweetness, the bowl of shaved ice was so light and delicious. The milk syrup-doused ice was not too sweet and just simply melts in the mouth as it was so fine as well as fluffy. However, the best part was certainly the magically distinctive pistachio espuma which was mildly aromatic, airy yet creamy. The combination of the slightly piquant raspberry syrup stewed in wine, cookie crumbles, and the bits of crunchy sweet-tart raspberry pearl chocolates placed at the very top also worked well together - really well-balanced.

Limited to 200 each day until 9 March, be sure to check their Instagram stories and go early to get the flavour of your choice~

Since I had made a special trip down, I walked back to the supermarket (after inhaling the pistachio kakigori at the food court) and got myself a second one (I was there slightly before 11 am so there wasn’t really a queue). This time I had to get the house’s signature Strawberry Cream Kakigori ($13). A tad more decadent in comparison, the fresh cream espuma was richer in taste mainly due to the milkiness but wasn’t cloying at all. Layered with strawberry syrup, milk syrup, and freeze-dried strawberries, the ultra-soft packed ice really resembled a super light, deconstructed strawberry shortcake.

The shaved ice was incredibly soft and fluffy, probably how fresh snow tastes like haha. Layered with fresh cream espuma, strawberry syrup, milk syrup and freeze dried strawberries. There were also other interesting flavours like blue cheese, and sake cream!
This pop-up by Tokyo-based @sakanouecafe will end on 9 March and is limited to 200 bowls a day, pretty pricey at $13 but I do think it’s worth a try! 🙂

FLUFFY SOFT KAKIGORI. Sakanoue Cafe that’s based in Tokyo, is here at Isetan Scotts’ supermarket for a pop-up! They’re serving their range of kakigori in various flavours on rotation - think flavours like Matcha, Blue Cheese & Sweet Bean, Pistachio Raspberries and more.

Yay, we went by early yesterday to try this and loved it. The carefully packed ice was super fluffy soft, all paired with sweet strawberry syrup, milk syrup, fresh cream espuma and bits of freeze-dried strawberries that I wished there was more of, considering the price tag.

2 weeks only till 9 Mar, check their IG for the daily flavours✌🏻

The mochi skin was very soft and supple. Although I don't usually love red bean paste, theirs was smooth and light, and not grainy/thick at all. Would get this again.

Price: $3
