Yet another lovely lunch, this time featuring seasonal giant clam so fresh it was still moving when the chef tapped it! I love that the sushi is served to you piece by piece here, like how it is done in proper sushiyas. You can also see how the fish completely covers the rice, also how a proper nigiri sushi should be done. For an ultra luxe experience, I recommend adding on the wagyu ($68++).

Ulala sushi course Aug 2019:
*Appetiser : flounder and endamame
*7 pc seasonal Nigiri sushi : 1) Sea bream 2) Yellow jack 3) Akami zuke 4) Giant Clam (Ishigaki Gai) 5) Botan ebi 6) Horse mackeral (aji) 7) Otoro
*ikura mini rice bowl
*Dessert : warabi mochi

Super affordable sushi lunch sets from $80++ (7pc) given that it's a proper sushiya, where each piece is served individually. It is well worth adding the special sushi bowl for additional $40++ due to the generous serving of fresh creamy uni, ikura, negitoro and shiro ebi (seasonal). If you do not top up you still get an ikura bowl as part of the set.

Ulala sushi course Apr 2019 : 1) Sea bream 2) flounder 3) akami zuke (seasoned tuna) 4) saba (mackeral) 5) scallop 6) kagoshima kuruma ebi (Japanese tiger shrimp) 7) otoro (tuna belly). Comes with appetiser (bonito), ikura rice bowl, Miso soup and dessert (warabi mochi).

All Japanese chefs here unlike my previous sushiya of choice, mitsuya, where it is luck of draw and you may get local chef with the totally inept knife skills.

One of the better sushi omakase set offered in Singapore. Chef Masaaki delivers on every single piece of sushi served. The menu also include some of the chef's creative flavors to spice up the sushi experience. Definitely worth the try and I'll be going back soon.

Ishi is a recently opened Japanese restaurant in the same building as the Intercontinental Robertson Quay but is not technically part of the hotel.

I had the 7-piece sushi set ($48) from their lunch menu which came with a complimentary starter, soup and ice cream. It was not bad but I’m not sure it was worth $48. My lunch companion ordered the Chirashi + Chawanmushi set ($68) which seemed better value.

We also ordered a side of Tempura ($35) and though the ingredients were of high quality (there was eel tempura which I’ve never seen before), the batter was too thick for our liking.

Perhaps the omakase would’ve been a better choice?
