Itacho Sushi had their Ikura Festival recently, serving two versions of their Ikura Don at 60% off.

I managed to try their Salmon & Roe Giant Mini Rice (S$11.90) on the last day of their promotion today. Featuring sushi rice buried under some raw salmon and a sea of salmon roe, the mini rice bowl was bursting with umami to a point where I wished I had more rice to pair with the Ikura. However, this was how exactly the Ikura Don should taste like.

Of course, in the absence of overflowing roe and the enthusiastic shouting of “Oisa-!”, the atmosphere lacked the element of drama that would come with the “festival”. Still, it was a good to have alongside the array of Sushi, Gunkan and other Tabemono that is familiar to the diners here. And the complimentary hot green tea did its job in cleansing the palate after emptying this bowl.

SWIPE for the 2 most amazing highlights of the meal!!! @itachosushisg: honestly my friend had been raving about Itacho so much so we decided to eat at Itacho since it was his birthday 🍰 . I ordered the salmon mentaiko sushi (which IMO is a classic and should be relatively decent). However, I was disappointed by Itacho’s version as the mentaiko was barely torched and there was sooo little mentaiko that I wanted to go back to @genkisushisg each time I took a bite 😅😂. I also ordered the soba which tasted normal (nothing to shout about but nothing to rave about either oops)

However, the meal was better towards the end as I decided to order the croquette, which was filled generously with a creamy mixture that tasted like clam chowder in a cream form (no kidding!!); it was crisp on the outside and so molten-y on the inside so I immediately fell in love 😻. My last order for this meal was the tempura prawn roll and this was the BEST thing ever!!! It looks unassuming but everything complemented one another well and the crunchiness of the tempura adds another dimension to the sushi base 🤩💯💯

Overall, I’d give Itacho a 6/10 for the mentaiko sushi, soba and the price of its food, but I’ll raise it to maybe a 7.5 for the croquette and prawn roll 👌🙊

Salmon sushi ($0.90++ or $0.60++ each)

Limited to 2 sushis for each person. $0.90++ for the one with Mentaiko. Very worth it!

Scallop With Spicy Salmon Mayo Rice ($8.50++)

Scallops were nice. Goes well with the spicy salmon mayo and rice. Amount is quite little. But quite worth it at this price.

As a new sashimi convert, I’m not able to stomach as many slices of raw fish compared to other enthusiasts out there. But Itacho was an exemption!

I trusted my friend to take charge of the menu and order what he thought I’d like, and this was what we had...
1) swordfish nigiri
2) smoked duck breast potato gratin (special @ $9) 👍🏼
3) lobster salad salmon maki
4) mentaiko & soya sauce salmon nigiri (autumn special @ $0.90) 👍🏼
5) soya sauce salmon nigiri (autumn special @ $0.60)
6) fatty salmon sashimi 👍🏼
7) cheese roe gunkan maki 👍🏼

The total bill came up to $50 for 2, with free tea and handtowels bc we spent over $10 per pax.

The seafood was fresh and I never enjoyed sushi as much as I did here. Will definitely be returning!

Tuna meat was cooked with broth. I would say this may not be suitable for everyone’s palate as it does have some acquired taste. But personally i love this!
