Very much different from the norm. I can't even pinpoint exactly which aspects are so unique but their sauce is definitely something else. No idea what they tweaked but it's lovable

Good reason why they charge so much

Their is pretty good. U have the smokiness and the caramelisation contributing to the roasted aroma, quite flavourful and slightly crispy at some parts. Worth a try

PSA make reservation, it's packed for lunch and quite fully booked

Fortunately, @izakayaniningashi salvages their reputation as a decent izakaya via their stellar skewers & gloriously grilled dishes. There ain’t nothing better than smoky, grilled meats & seafood to pair with free flow booze, and I know this fact well from years of firsthand experience.⠀

The colossal chicken tsukune ($3.50++ with an egg yolk for dipping) was delightfully delish, with a tantalising teriyaki glaze seasoning the freshly grilled poultry exceptionally. The slightly more diminutive yet no less delicious yakitori ($3++ a stick) was generously glazed with more of the same sapid sauce as the chicken was grilled to perfection. Juicy, tender chicken coated in a scintillating sweet & salty sauce? Yes please, more please.⠀

At $3.50++ a stick, the Kurobuta pork belly was simple yet sumptuous. The competence of the chef on the grill station was the only thing (other than a sufficient seasoning of salt) carrying this fabulously fatty pork belly, and boy was that chef a pro. The meat was tremendously tender with just a hint of char all over, and the fat simply melted in my mouth. The pork belly was gone in sixty nanoseconds, straight down into the churning cauldron of alcohol that was my stomach.⠀

Last but not least, the whole grilled Japanese squid was as every bit as irresistible as its landlubber-y colleagues. Fresh, bouncy, snappy & charmingly chewy, all this smoky cephalopod required was a liberal sprinkle of salt, or perhaps a judicious brushing of soy sauce.⠀

Come for the drinks, stay for the grills kids.

Let’s get to the REAL reason why we went to @izakayaniningashi in the first place. They have $40++ free flow booze for 90 minutes. While forty bucks is a little extortionate, you had me at free flow my guy.⠀

Protip: to maximise drunkenness as well as bang for your buck, stick with the pedestrian but inoffensive cold sake that’s provided in the freeflow fiesta. Sure, the Shochikubai Ten is pretty forgettable, but it gets you drunk in proper order, and it doesn’t give you a nasty hangover after. Get AT LEAST five of these carafes to break even on the free flow. Thank me later.

Well, I think we’ve found it. A hotpot that I thought was pretty poor, one that I ain’t hot for. It may be mildly colder weather than usual in Singapore right now, which means that it’s hotpot szn, but this still failed to impress. Sure, @izakayaniningashi is first and foremost an izakaya, so them having hotpot (the Japanese word is nabe, which makes every true blue Singapore snigger at the pronunciation) on the menu is pretty much a bonus. ⠀

While they were acceptably altruistic with the amount of chicken meatballs, thinly sliced pork belly shabu shabu, enoki mushrooms & Japanese silken tofu, they could’ve been a lot more lavish with the salt. The broth was basically all spice & nothing else. Even after letting all the ingredients stew in it for a bit, the broth was still banally bland.⠀

Not gonna lie, for $29.90++, I was expecting better from this hotpot.⠀
