Went to check out Izy Fook a while back since they were on #BurppleBeyond! I must say that the service was great and our service staff was extremely attentive and friendly throughout the meal 🤩

First up, we had the 𝐓𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐧 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧 ($25) which came with a tiger prawn, roast pork belly and an ajitama egg. The noodles were cooked al dente, retaining its bouncy feel and the prawn broth was so good to slurp up! 😋Honestly, it felt like an atas bowl of prawn noodles. 😅

Our other dish was the 𝐖𝐚𝐠𝐲𝐮 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐧 ($34) which came topped with truffle shavings and slices of marinated wagyu. We did wish that they could have been more generous with the portion as it was a pretty small serving overall.

The sakura pork ribs at @izyfook are some ritzy ribs, ‘cause they’ll beat your wallet up for fifty five bucks. And that’s before the ten percent service charge, AND the seven percent GST. Oof. Yes, oof indeed. Izy Fook has another name for them: Khao Kha Moo. Yes, the ‘moo’ may throw you for a loop, but it’s all porcine here. The extravagant ribs are draped over a bed of rice, and accompanied by a trio of half boiled soy marinated eggs, and...that’s it really.⠀

Due to the supreme quality of pork, and the braising process Izy Fook has put it through, these redolent ribs didn’t just fall off the bone with zero fuss. The rib meat damn near melted in my mouth, on god. They didn’t disappoint on deliciousness either, with this buxom, juicy rack slathered in a glorious glaze that tastes like a barbecue sauce with a distinctly Asian hook. Im gonna be honest with you, I have no idea what the Asian twist is. Hoisin? Kicap Manis? We’ll probably never know. What I do know, however, is that this is a sexy rack that you just wanna fook-I mean, fork. Get stuck into it with a fork. Yeah. That’s totally what I said & meant from the start.⠀

The eggs were too overcooked, as there was effectively zero flow & the yolks were mostly set. The rice was completely forgotten about, and was easily the dealbreaker of the dish. A little tender loving care, or heck, even just a judicious sprinkling of sauce on it, and it would’ve been all Gucci. Nope, nobody in the kitchen even acknowledged the existence of said rice, almost like the rice was the outcast bastard child of the family. Seriously, what did the rice ever do to y’all?⠀

Most of you will agree with me when I say that fifty five dollars is pretty fookin expensive for what the Khao Kha Moo currently is, and it’s way too Izy for me to advise skipping this one.

Note to self: if I ever dine at @izyfook again, bring a full lighting crew. The lighting in there is perfect for a little romantic dinner & a little PDA hanky panky for couples, but it’s a bleeding nightmare for my iPhone that’s at least three generations behind to shoot in. Anyway, my photo is awful, but Izy Fook’s Iberico Red Curry ($38++) is absolutely awesome.⠀

Even though it was a cut of pork shoulder that was used, the meat was marvellously marbled with fat and it showed in the ludicrous juiciness of said pork. It was scandalously soft & was close to melting in my mouth, and each chew brought me within touching distance of carnivore nirvana.⠀

The redolent red curry pays homage to its Thai origins with a hearty whiff of lemongrass perfumed all throughout the creamy curry, and is satisfyingly spicy to match. The curry is utterly umami, with the creamy concoction being perfectly balanced between spicy, salty & sweet. Also, it’s a chunky one, and the curry’s mouthfeel is heavy, creamy, luscious & delightfully velvety. The eggplant & potatoes within the curry add sweetness & starchiness to the already sublime curry, but I kind of regret not ordering a bowl of plain rice to mop up all of that highly coveted curry.⠀

But really, the main element that makes this dish worth the eye watering asking price of forty bucks is the ponderous portion of perfectly cooked pork shoulder. It’s so fantastically fatty & flavourful that I couldn’t get enough of it despite its respectable size. This dish sure as hell ain’t Izy on the wallet, but finally, some good Fookin food.⠀

A very belated post on a celebratory meal to conclude 2020. The chosen destination? A sensationalised F&B outlet co-owned by a radio DJ personnel, as we learnt. But food and taste comes first, and out of the 4 small sides 3 big plates we had there were clear favourites while others came short of being spectacular.

The table’s favourite was the Sakura Pork Ribs, coming in a fancy Chinese claypot, made of earthenware? I’m too amateur to tell. Regardless it housed large ribs with fall off the bone tender meat - good enough that it becomes a sin to have leftovers.
My next favourite would be the Begedil and Karaage. Given that it is difficult to go wrong with fried food, the former was a premium edition with delicious beef stuffing of the potato snack I was introduced to when grabbing lunch with my Muslim colleagues around our office. The latter is a straightforward favourite done well as expected given the price point 😬

Other dishes we had: the “Hangover” Stew and Iberico Red Curry was too salty for my colleagues palate but favor filled for me, instead I was dismayed by the tough Iberico meat- wasn’t this a premium cut that should deliver?

We also had the Madai Coconut Ceviche (which I found hard to appreciate but tasty nonetheless) and the tiger prawn ramen (which was good but a reminder that Izy Fook is not a ramen speciality store which we were a dime of a dozen on our little red dot).
