When I am unsure if I will like the chilli sambal at a random stall, I prefer to order my noodles 白 (baí) or “white”. Which means it’s prepared sans chilli, ketchup and vinegar. But sometimes, if the rest that makes up what’s left, that is, the invisible sauce (usually soya sauce and some sort of oil) is a good blend, the outcome can be a heap of surprisingly tasty noodles. More often than not, pork lard oil is the reason for that. I then just toss in sliced red chilli and dig in.
The sole “meepok kway teow” stall inside Brunners Coffeeshop proved to do a most enjoyable version that I would definitely return for.

Great kaya butter toast - with 2 thick slabs of butter that were at race to how quickly you devour the delicious toast vis a vis them melting completely. So much joy to eat 😋

Most Kway Chap I’ve tasted tend to swing either too savory or too herbal for more liking. Fortunately the pork, intestine, toufu (main dishes) was well balanced in its own right, and that made it extremely satisfying to the palate.
However the “Kway” soup is a tad too salty and needs to be toned down a notch. Overall a good addition to the already bustling Brunners Coffeeshop 😊

What I have read online says that quality varies across branches of this relatively well-known chain, but this bowl at the Brunner’s coffeeshop branch was most comforting for all the right nostalgic reasons. Give the “QQ” noodles a good toss in the slightly sweet and oily soy and chilli sauce mix before slurping down for a very satisfying mouthful. Each order comes with 4 wantons(3 boiled, 1 fried), but when I remarked why there was only 1 tiny fried wanton, the cook kindly gave me an extra one.

Carrot cake! ($3) @ Katong Jack Carrot Cake.. Long break since we came and it's still one of our all time fav! My fav is still the black while Dylan's is white.. I prefer the sweet black sauce coating the carrot cake with that slight char taste #burpple #gettingfatwhilewaiting #mama&babs #whilewaitingfortheloml #lomljns #lomljnck

The humble chye tow kway (carrot cake).

Panfried with eggs and salty bits of crunchy chye por (preserved radish). So simple but yet so good.
