Because it's in my neighbourhood, I rate it higher. It's not extraordinary and that name just raises expectations. Try the one with every ingredient instead.

The corner coffee shop at the junction of Simon Road and Upper Serangoon Road has lost a good Chinese satay/BBQ chicken wings stall, but it has gained a pretty darned decent bak chor mee stall in exchange, all thanks to fellow foodie @raineraineeataway who first brought this mee pok stall into the spotlight.

QQ oodles of mee pok are mixed in an absolutely ambrosial sauce mix of ketchup, pleasantly potent chili sauce, a dash of soy sauce and some soup before a generous amount of thinly sliced minced pork, fishcakes and minced pork, along with two fish balls and a pair of shrimp.

The sauce made the oodles of noodles pleasingly greasy and superbly savory, while the pork carried no hint of off-putting odor. I don't quite understand why the standard issue fishballs in the bak chor mee are factory made instead of the stellar spheres of fish paste that are featured in their fishball soup, but the whole bowl of BCM was so utterly comforting and hearty on a rainy evening that I was more than willing to overlook that niggling detail.

I think some should be familiar with the Jalan Tua Kong Ya Lim Mee Pok, and there is one now at Kovan (in my hood!!). At first glance, it looks unpromising with the little presence of zhup. Yes, this isn't the vinegary and zhupy kind of Mee Pok but this was still brilliantly full of flavours! The basic Ya Lim Mee Pok ($4), even entitle you to 2 prawns (apart from the usual fish cakes and fish balls). While the Signature Noodles ($6) was the upgraded version with abalone slices and dumplings.
I'm already thinking of my next visit here before even cleaning my bowl (which I did!).
