definitely my favourite haunt 🥺 tried this for the first time years ago and it still doesn't disappoint!! super thick sashimi slices and delicious seared salmon with mentaiko on top, and with good prices. gets really crowded so do go early!! :-)

The moral of the story is to never say no when the chef highly recommends you try something on the menu.

For $12, you get 5 slices of fresh salmon sashimi at Japanese Curry Express that are really really good. Calling them slices may just be the understatement of the year as they come in thick slabs with their house marinade of soy sauce and sweet mirin.

We also love their ebi fry maki which is topped with bright yellow slices of sweet mango, tobiko and mayonnaise.

If there is one dish you must order, it must be their salmon sashimi!

@jooeunchung and I are big fans of Japanese Curry Express, a hole in the wall eatery on the 3rd floor of Fortune Centre.

If you like Koh Sushi Grill's non-traditional fusion makis, you will probably love Japanese Curry Express as well. Yes, they serve a good curry but their makis are what draws the crowds.

Their avocado and mango makis were sold out during our first visit but we loved their mentaiko salmon don which featured thick slabs of fresh salmon seared and topped with their house mentaiko mayonnaise sauce. They also serve a nasty good spider maki (soft shell crab) topped with a sauce which packed a nice spicy kick.

More importantly, their food is really reasonably priced considering the product they put out!

Instead of the usual grill / pan-fry Saba fish, they served a deep-fry Saba fish. The outer was crispy but the inner was moist and soft, yummy!

(S$8)

Nicely fried katsu and is served hot. However, the portion is small.

(S$7.50)

The salmon slices were perfectly seared on the outside and still had a raw underside. The mentaiko sauce was nicely charred and smoky. It was a rather small portion but I knew that I would feel surfeited if there was more to devour.

(Small - S$11)
