Jinjo is one of my favourite meals of 2020.

Jinjo has been offering pretty value-for-money lunch sets. They have three options for lunch sets: the gyu (beef) at $35++, the tori (poultry) at $25++ and the unagi (eel) at $32++. All sets come with salad, pickles and soup. I opted for the gyu and I was blown away.

The Kagoshima beef was tremendously delicious - it had a good ratio of lean meat to fat, well seasoned and cooked to perfection (medium rare)! However, what really separated Jinjo from other sumiyakis was their care and attention to detail. Most restaurants understandably wouldn’t put too much consideration towards the sides but not at Jinjo. It seemed like every element that was served had a gastronomic purpose. The miso soup was wonderfully rich, the salad was crisp and tasty and even the pickles were beautifully sweet.

I'll be here often, in fact already my second time in a month. It's a causal joint that serves very good yakitori, and prices are good for its quality as well. Excluding drinks, a Friday night dinner here would be around $100 to $150 for two persons.

I wished I discovered this place earlier, and I would have a regular place to go to on Friday nights. That's when I need casual fuss-free food that are also yummy.

Following the closure of Otowa after the previous Japanese owner-chef went back to Japan, it's not easy to name another good yakitori place in Singapore. Jinjo could fill that spot, albeit with much better ventilation that will not leave you smelling like one of the skewers.

Infused with the flavour of carrot cake, this crispy tofu tasted so much like a finer version of cai tao kueh 😍 it has a super unique texture too. Yum!

Auntie was a victim of lymph nodes infectionsssssss... better eat more garlic haha!

Picked this set menu featuring a beautifully char-grilled cod fillet till flaky and moist. Was hoping for a slightly bigger portion for the price but I know that good quality cod is pricey. You will also get a tofu side dish, chawanmushi, soup, rice, pickles and onsen egg so it's a pretty substantial meal.
