Although there’s many popular food places around Johor Bahru city centre, but there’s also some hidden place that only the locals would know about it for now.

For example this interesting food place called the Teo Hock Kee Fried Kueh Teow. It hidden in their own house at the corner of road just opposites the Persada Convention Centre.

There’s no obvious signage at the roadside but you can see it if you look closely into the house.

So basically you would be enjoying the uncle’s plate of fried kueh teow at the front yard of his house.

Which I find it very interesting and homely here. His fried kueh teow is very similar to what we can find in Singapore.

Go for the kueh teow with noodle, and add chili. That’s it, it would be a wonderful plate to enjoy.

I was taking a flight from Senai Airport and looking for something to eat before departure nearby, then I found this new place at Kulai.

Alit Restaurant housed within a vey nostalgia interior style of setting, serving local cuisine from early morning.

Their signature dish seems to be the curry noodle. I would say it is very tasty and spicy for me. You get to choose the type of noodle.

The famed Kuala Lumpar Hokkien Mee Restaurant has a history of over 100 years old and has opened a branch in SOGO which made it a lot more convenient for us Singaporeans! I ordered the Claypot Lou Shu Fen that came with an uncooked egg in the middle. The noodles were stir fried and doused with generous amount of dark soya sauce, giving it that sweet and salty flavour.

Overall the noodles got a tad repetitive half way through (if you get what I mean) and I would recommend sharing it. We had a teapot of Kukpo tea to wash down the surfeitness. Just a heads up - the KL Hokkien mee is not the same as what we have here but with the same flavour profile as the 老鼠粉 just with the thick egg noodles. Though I love the cabbage slices which gave more texture to the dish and cut through the sauce.

I'm not saying it sucks but it didn't live up to expectations. Would love to have more wokhey/robustness to it and maybe even more elements to the dish, like squid? Still worth a try though!

RM6.50. 2nd floor of Merlin Tower. Love this curry yong tau fu, and surely not affected by the dodgy surrounding.
