Jelly centre with baumkuchen exterior! It's fluffy and moist! Level of sweetness is on point! Really tasted like layered cake just that it's without creme or oil!
Jelly tho, is normal. And personally, I don't think the jelly and baumkuchen comes together very well. I ate them separately

Price for 1 is $3, 3 for $8!

Switching out my standard afternoon treats for a box of Juchhiem's cookies and signature baumkuchen (that I got as a gift), I really enjoyed the sweets which went superbly well with a spot of tea. Resembling a tree log with its many layered rings, the cake was not something I would usually go for. Denser than the usual Japanese pastries that I am used to, the texture of the traditional German cake was a tad too dense and dry especially if you were to compare it to our favourite butter sponge. However, looking at it individually the chilled confectionery held a delicate citrusy flavour and non-greasy finish - a great snack any time of the day.

It's Good Friday today, and here's a dessert to sweeten up the day!
Eis Baumkuchen (also known as Fresh Baumkuchen cake with ice-cream) costs
S$6. Their Hokkaido ice-cream comes in either dark chocolate or vanilla. And so we ordered one each.
I love the creamy dark chocolate ice-cream and fragrant vanilla ice-cream, but I thought it didn't go well with the dry sponge cake. The cake and ice-cream is good on its own, but not when eaten together.

Like all japanese bakes, the matcha Baumkuchen is characterised by souffle like texture and a delicate flavour. Makes a very good tea time cake!

Let me continue to embrace the spring breeze with Sakura Biscuit from @juchheimsg
