Medium: 2 Protein + 4 Sides + 1 Sauce - $11.90
Selected Sushi Rice as base, Raw Salmon and cooked Shoyu Salmon. Topped up Tobiko Flying Fish roe, half boiled egg, tamago yaki & broccoli. Picked Kaisentei Signature Sauce for pairing

The rice bowl is filled with goodness, very generous in serving. The fresh salmon sashimi is your best pick, unless you only eat cooked salmon if not please ditch that for their salmon sashimi. Dipping the sashimi into the kaisen sauce and pair with a mouth of Japanese rice, shiok! The sauce is salty so go easy. There’s wide variety of toppings to select from and they taste great too. Very worthwhile as they provide free flow cooked egg and spicy bean sprouts too. You can select salad as base if wanna avoid carbs overload

Kaisen Tei United Square
DIY Kaisen Don

DIY bowl which is quite value-for-money given the variety. Topped it with salmon sashimi, cherry tomatoes, broccolli, corn, avacado and onsen egg. The sashimi wasn't the freshest, as it was pre-cut. The avacado was generous, and the other toppings were fine. Not the best, but still a healthy fix.

Newly opened in United Square, Kaisen-Tei, an eatery part of the Ministry of Food group offers diners the option of mixing and matching their own preferred flavors. In my $13.80 bowl I had tuna and salmon sashimi, avocado, edamame, tobiko, wakame seaweed, ikura and an onsen egg. If that’s amazing value, I don’t know what is.

It actually exceeded my expectations, aside from how worth it the bowl was, the fish was fresh, most of the cuts were good. I actually liked how they gave the sauce on the side instead of mixing it, allowing you to dictate how salty you want it to be and overall, I left really satisfied.

Whilst the sushi rice and various ingredients (of varying degrees of freshness) are largely and surprisingly passable, the soya sauce-esque marinade is of a thirst-inducing quality, while the ghastly, icy tamago chunks clearly possess bats-in-underwear levels of sexual frigidity. 3.1/5

Topped with 3 protein (salmon cubes, teriyaki chicken, tako) + 5 complimentary add-on (onsen egg, avocado, pumpkin, sweet potato, crabstick) + 1 sauce (wasabi yuzu), check out my astounding kaisen don. With that massive amount of topping, the large bowl only costs $13.90! 😉

I like that the toppings are chilled as they would taste weird if they vary at temperature i.e. some are warm or at room temperature especially the raw toppings. The variety of toppings and types of dressing are quite extensive. Some of them stood out such as wasabi yuzu, apple dressing and pesto!

Not to worry if your lunch/dinner kakis are not into raw food. Kaisen Tei also serves normal rice bowl and curry rice. I'm quite keen on trying the Crab Cream Croquette with Egg rice bowl next time. 😊

P.S.: Kaisen Tei has opened another branch at United Square. It is located on level 1 right next to Ju Hao by MOF.
