we got the taiwan mazesoba and original mazesoba with charsiew. both were pretty decent. if you’re hungry i would recommend the upsize since it’s free. the noodles were real chewy and the proportions were a lot. HOWEVER, the deal we got was $32++ for 2 sets, which was essentially only $0.80 cents cheaper per person after calculating GST. which rly isn’t worth, even with the side dish and tea. but the food rly was good. it’s just whether you want to pay for it. lel.

First time trying Mazesoba! Was a good experience:) Service was amazing - staff were really friendly and attentive :) Relatively quiet on a Friday night - stayed in the restaurant for a while. There is a free upsize for noodles available too. Worked out to be ~$20/pax if you get the set.

I will always recommend Kajiken to people who have never tried mazesoba, the Japanese dry-style ramen casually known as the Japanese Bak Chor Mee, and it has never once failed. With Burpple beyond, it’s extremely value for money as the set comes with a small side dish of your choice (cold tofu/potato salad/chicken karaage), miso soup and hot/ice roasted green tea in addition to the mazesoba which you can also ask for a free upgrade of noodles.

As a loyal fan of the Taiwan mazesoba Nagoya style, I always love how flavorful it is with the slight spicy minced pork sauce and the heap of spring onions! Toss in the onsen egg with the chewy noodles for a moist texture. Go for the tender char siew slices as they tear apart so delicately with each bite. Comparatively, the original mazesoba seemed to be bland without the minced pork and spring onions, though it was served with bamboo shoots.

The friendly staff will also recommend you to leave some sauce at the end to mix in with a small portion of rice. Find out for yourself just how well the sauce goes with rice!

Taiwan mazesoba nagoya style (~SGD13.80++): Think this is the first time I’m trying a dry ramen like this! Sorta like a Japanese ba chor mee with a little bit of spicy kick. Pretty good, although I wish the noodles could have been a bit chewier. Price point wise it’s a liiitle steep but I think it’s worth a try 👌They also have free flow miso soup and a free upgrade of noodles, so I think it’s pretty alright :-)

This is a great healthy twist on mazesoba, with the same yellow noodles and tasty sauce, but topped with lots of cabbage, carrots and mushrooms. The flavoured egg was large, marinated in soy sauce, with a QQ egg white and slightly runny yolk.

Burpple set includes a small side dish and free-flow hot/iced roasted green tea! Not in photo we have potato salad and chicken karaage as our selected sides. (Note that chicken karaage is only 1 pc) Mazesoba comes with a small bowl of miso soup, which is sufficient given the main highlight being the mazesoba itself! Mixing the soft-boiled egg together with the thick ramen noodles creates a flavourful sauce which is enjoyable even by itself (you may add chilli oil and vinegar to your preference). Do note that the Taiwan Mazesoba is a little spicy due to the minced pork sauce! Char siew slices are very tender although they were served lukewarm.

You may request for a small portion of rice from restaurant staff to mix with the remaining sauce from the mazesoba – would recommend to do this since there’s definitely going to be sauce and ingredients left over! It’s bound to leave your bowl clean after finishing every grain of rice with the yummy sauce. 😉
