This was the first item on the menu that caught my attention because nan ru is a pretty rare find and I am quite a big fan of it! Just the sight of the thick nanru pork belly sandwiched between nicely done buns and coleslaw on a bed of thick chunky fries could almost whet the appetite of anyone. True enough, the buns were well buttered and the fries were seasoned just right for me. However, the porky star was a little too chewy and its nan ru flavor was almost non-existent for my liking:( Also, the dressing of the coleslaw was so watery that it kept dripping onto my fries, making them too soggy for optimal enjoyment:( Nevertheless I thought there are really efforts in finding new flavours, just that there is some room for improvement:)

From Kampung Corner at Shaw Towers β€” formerly Kampung Bowl and Corner Burger at East Coast Road in Brunners Coffeeshop. Still serving their signature rice bowls and burgers, Corner Kampung is now situated in a small coffeeshop beside Wild Market together that also has a Qiu Lian Ban Mian.

Having tried their Fu Ru Tonkatsu Burger before, the burger seemed to have been tweaked slightly with use of Nan Ru instead and featuring a grilled party instead of a fried one. While I did enjoy the grilled pork which was tender and juicy, the Nan Ru marination wasn't as prominent as it was with the Fu Ru along with the fried version. Otherwise, the burger was still pretty value-for-money; $9.90 and coming with fries beneath were crisp and lightly seasoned for flavour, while the burger buns were light, fluffy and crisp, being lightly-toasted.

One half sells Peranakan food, while the other half sells burgers! Kampung Bowl has an option of 3 dishes which is either $7/8. I had the Babi Ponteng 豆酱慒炖ηŒͺδΊ”θŠ±, slow cooked fermented soy bean pork collar with potato. There's also a Ayam Merah, spicy tomato sauce with chicken confit which was very tempting, and Beef Agogo. It does have a home cooked flavour 😊

An impromptu dinner led on by our hungry tummies had us travelling down to Corner Burger for some bites. And sharing the Beef Adobo ($8), the bowl was pretty decent with the sweet-savoury marinate being the highlight and pulling all the elements together. The beef could be more tender but overall a satisfying option.

The stall next door to Corner Burger called Kampung Bowl is run by the same folks. A rice bowl with ayam masak merah (spicy tomato chicken) and a sous vide egg.

It was a modern twist to the traditional Malay dish served in a rice bowl. I quite like the concept but thought that the taste could be dialed up more, especially since the sous vide egg will dilute the sauce into a creamy texture.
