May not the kind of sweet french toast we usually get elsewhere, but I like the addition of raw honey, candied walnut and creamy ricotta cheese. They make it less jelat and suitable for anyone who’s looking for light, nutritious breakfast (fruits ftw!). The base (sourdough toast) is a tad dense, but gives nice bites instead of soaking all the cream/honey. Also, isn’t this toast so instagram-worthy?

New breakfast menu at KARA! Avocado toasts are usually not my first pick, but theirs was done so nicely that it was easily our unanimous favourite that day. Looked simply like a sourdough topped with mashed avocado, a sunny-side up and kale chips, but the sourdough was actually done like a grilled cheese sandwich! They also added corn into the thick avocado mash which gave that extra fun touch of sweetness alongside the savoury cheesiness. Found the dishes more on the pricey side though, but they’re on Burpple Beyond now too for some items.

This is Kara cafe’s take on the quintessential big breakfast! Instead of toast, it’s done with waffles with bits of corn and spring onions in them, which I enjoyed. There’s the typical stuff in a big breakfast too like sautéed mushrooms, bacon, roasted tomatoes, some greens, scrambled eggs (which could have been more seasoned) and a grilled sausage which is thoughtfully scored (I love when the inside meat of a sausage is seared).

For those who prefer local food for breakfast, the kaya butter french toast is an option. They use a pandan bread for the french toast, with kaya sandwiched inside. It’s finished off with a giant cold slab of butter and some toasted coconut flakes. Think this would have been better with a thicker slice of toast!

This pretty sourdough french toast was topped with an ample amount of creamy ricotta cheese, granola, candied walnuts and figs. It’s also drizzled with 100% raw honey, which is a nice upgrade from the usual more liquidy syrup. It’s a good choice for people who prefer sweet brunch dishes and certainly very beautiful. Personally would have liked the french toast itself to have more flavour to contrast with the mild tasting ricotta cheese, maybe some cinnamon?

I was honestly sceptical about this because I don’t enjoy most fusion foods, but this was also one of my favourites. The fried chicken with the slightly runny egg, along with the sweet sambal (which was not very spicy), was delicious. I also love that they included some sambal-coated ikan billis inside because it really enhanced the flavour. The cucumber pickles inside the burger and the achar was also a nice contrast and cut through the spice.
