Special shoutout to the Uni Chirashi which had me going gaga over. Despite how simple the components were, this was pretty exceptional and I wouldn't mind ordering it ala carte. Needless to say, I had an enjoyable time here though things were generally pretty fast paced. Given the quality of the seafood and the price point, I simply have no complaints and would recommend everyone to pay them a visit!

Have been wanting to give Kaunta a try but never found the time to, so I was really looking forward to my meal here when I finally made a reservation. The lunch sets here are extremely affordable and value for money, going for as low as $60. I went for the mid tier set as it was the only one with Uni chirashi which I was craving for. The sushis and sashimis here are mostly aged, which gives off more flavours as compared to the usual fare at the other omakase restaurants near the hood. Here’s what I had:

> Sakura Ebi Salad
> Meijina (small scale black fish)
> Ishigakidai (spotted knifejaw seabream)
> Houbou (blue sea robin fish)
> Sumi Ika (spineless squid)
> Mikan Tai (orange seabream)
> Chutoro (tuna belly)
> Hotate (scallops)
> Uni Chirashi
> Miso Soup
> Yuzu Sorbet

My first ever Omakase experience and it was great! The food is awesome and sashimi very fresh. It doesn’t look like a lot of food but I was surprisingly full towards the end. Head chef is knowledgeable and proud of his food. Can see that his standards for his food is high and thus translated to the quality that we get. Enjoyed every piece of sushi that came my way. For dessert, choose the Black Sesame flavour. The other one was a tad too sweet for my liking. For the price point, I’d say give it a go!

By the same team behind The Sushi Bar, @kauntasg is a 20-seater modern, casual Japanese omakase restaurant, specialised in aged sushi and sashimi. Did you know aging creates a rich umami flavour that makes the fish taste more pleasant and savoury?😋

We went for the most value for money Omakase Aoi (SGD60), which includes…
👉Appetizer (Sakura Ebi Salad)
👉Hot Dish (Yellowtail)
👉8 Pieces of Sushi
Wild Amberjack(Kanpachi), Stripped Jack(Shima Aji), Japanese Horse Mackerel(Aji), House-smoked Salmon, Red Gunnard(Houbou), Spineless Squid(Sumi Ika), Tuna Red Meat(Akami), Medium Fat Tuna Belly(Chutoro)
👉Toro Maki
👉Miso Soup
👉Dessert
Yuzu or Black Sesame Icecream served with umeshu jelly

If you’re looking for a complete omakase experience at this price point, this is probably not the place for you. See your luck, you might be seated far from the chef’s preparation table, which also means zero direct interaction and little personalised attention from the chef. There seemed to be a lack of pacing too, as all our sushi were served at about the same time, especially towards the end.🥲

All in all, in terms of taste and quality, it didn’t disappoint.😄

Appetiser, hot dish, 8 piece sushi, toro maki, miso soup, dessert.

Abit heavy handed with the shoyu on the sushi. Liked the rice. Prefer something else instead of unagi chawanmushi for hot dish. Liked the miso soup with fried fish, black sesame ice cream and some of the sushi (personal preference)

Quality is there but don’t like it enough to go back

The food is nice, however the portion is small and there’s no cooked food in the $128 Omakase. We had to order an extra beef dish to share.

Manager there was super friendly. They have a booth seat for 4 at the side of the restaurant which is nicer than the other table available.
