Is this a hidden gem for lunch at Tanjong Pagar? It's quiet so it's where I can have my Japanese meal in zen mode. The ala carte menu for dinner is more expensive, so I like to drop by for their lunch menu which are mostly below $20.

Thursday's lunch special is this uni ikura don, and both the #uni and #ikura are fresh. As this is a really tiny bowl only slightly larger than a miso soup bowl, my tummy weren't full but satisfied, leaving ample space for dessert. There are other items on their lunch menu such as salmon ikura don and chirashi don at a lower price and a larger normal sized bowl. My friends @nicdragyou and @lainesy_ were happy with their uni ikura and salmon ikura don, and more so that it's a quiet and nicely renovated restaurant.

Can pop by if you work in the area to see if you like their lunch menu. The staff can afford to look less grumpy though, they aren't that busy especially when the restaurant is only half filled.
Salmon with generous servings of ikura at only $16.50 nett.
Dinner is expensive, but during lunch, this kaisen don cost only $18+ (no gst). Salmon, hotate, onsen egg,.... A wholesome and guilt-free bowl of raw fish. I can have this everyday if not for the dizzying array of food choices we have at this district.

From the urghsome half-cooked egg that straddled the texture between half-boiled egg and cooked egg for Maggi Mee, to the two octopus sashimi slices which were so unmanageable that I felt like that guy in Korean thriller Oldboy having to swallow the gooey live tentacled gorgon…just wow. You know those Marvel vs Capcom or similar arcade games where you can do combo consecutive hits and the number will increase on the top of the screen? Well, here the number kept jumping – pasty uni! questionable freshness! bland, rough rice! – and the blatant scoopage of vanilla ice cream from a most familiar blue, angular tub was the grand knockout. K.O. 2.9/5

Ordered this from their set lunch menu, which comes with Nimono, Tsukemono, Miso Soup and Dessert. More like a Chinese Stir-Fry, the beef pieces were not gamey and had a bite to it. Pretty much like a tzechar dish, it was stir-fried in onions and bell peppers served with plain Japanese rice. A pretty mediocre item, the sides were nothing much to shout about, and the Vanilla ice-cream which was the dessert was manually scooped at the back of the counter from a Nestle tub ...
