Yes the egg is soft and fluffy at least, but the rice beneath it is nothing spectacular. The demi glacé ladled over doesn’t have much flavour, and its bitterness takes some getting used to. Come for his fancy flicks and your share of bragging rights—but don’t expect the meal to be worth your money in terms of taste. @kichikichi_omurice

Near Pontocho alley, this is a gem. Wanted to find the best omu rice in Kyoto and this place really stood out. The showmanship and personal service of the chef showed the dedication to his craft of omu rice. And when a chef loves his food that much, the food just seems more delicious.

Recommend to make reservations 3 weeks in advance online! The mini version was 1800Y and the large version was 3600Y. Felt that the mini one was enough, and we preferred the non-beef sauce over the beef sauce. Yums

I'll TRY to keep it short.... 😂
Make sure you book in advanced online. Come on time. The place is small, the chef is sweet and the portions are expensive. The process of making the omu rice however is very fun to watch and experience!

If I remember correctly, most of my friends and I decided with the smaller portion (price constraints), it was around 20 dollars and you get rice smaller than a usual bowl 😢 I enjoyed every mouth thankfully! With the help of some chilli concoction I requested the chef to make because no chilli no life! 🙈 Oh yes, that's a tip. Request for some chilli, he'll whip some ra-yu like thing and it's tasty!

It was too late in Kyoto to search for a proper dining spot and while walking through this alley, this random restaurant was opened and so it was decided •

There were limited seats and only 2 groups were there, we got the bar seat by luck. Anyone else who came in after us were rejected as he was closing soon. THIS chef then cooked for us and was really into his presentation - it was therapeutic watching him make the perfect omelette •

Back at the Airbnb, posted this on my personal insta, a lot of people asked if HE was the viral omurice dude and honestly until today, I still don’t know which viral video it is 😂 if I had known he was some famous omurice dude, I would’ve taken a picture with him •

Either way, whether or not he is famous, it was one of the best omurice I’ve ever tasted in the whole of Japan thus far 😍 #highlyRAEted •
