This soupy bowl of bak chor mee exceeded by expectations! Loved how the white cabbage seems to make the soup stock super tasty! Springy noodles and flavorful beef balls! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area (:
First impression when the noodle is served, this is for mushroom lovers... Indeed their thick sliced succulent mushroom and robust mushroom based (chili) sauce will not disappoint. The mee pok is al dente and has that certain "hardness" that I like. That is not to be taken for granted even if you give repeated reminders to certain hawkers, the noodle for some just do not have the right texture to deliver that pleasure of street noodle or simply "cannot make it lah". Comes with a bowl of rich pork stock with 3 tasty meatballs, sliced pork, sliced liver and minced pork, which is good value at $4 (for the "liao"ๆ hunters). Nothing is complete without the generous bak you pok (pork lard) and the special ingredient for ้ (every meepok man has their special ingredients) is the addition of just a right amount of fried shallot and fried "teepoh" fish.
So the owner Mr Ng used to run the famous seafood bak kut teh in Lakeview food centre (now defunct) before changing trade to sell BCM. He focuses on using quality ingredients and eats his own BCM every day because he believes that he only serves what he eats. Great chilli with crispy pork lard. He uses rock sugar, ikan bilis and pork bones for his broth, absolutely no MSG! http://www.misstamchiak.com/kim-bak-chor-mee-balestier/
gotta thank @rubbisheatrubbishgrow for the nearby recommendation.
however, bcm queen @dawn.musk still prefers the one back at clementi.
