Maybe not worth a special detour, but when you inadvertently find yourself in Petaling Street because you were an under-researched tourist (guilty), remember to try this queue-plagued stall.

The ๐˜€๐—ผ๐˜†๐—ฎ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฑ (RM1.80) was silky smooth and slid down my throat effortlessly after bouncing vivaciously between the walls of my mouth.

The ginger-tinged brown sugar made it delightfully addictive, infusing a good dose of sweetness and ginger fragrance. Maybe I would have preferred a more subdued ginger pungency, but I appreciated the complexity it brought to this popular #streetfood.

Find this soya bean stall situated right opposite Madam Tang Muah Cheeโ€™s cart. Thereโ€™s always a line for the drinks, but the queue moves fast, so get your order ready. Go for the silky smooth Tau Fu Fah (RM1.80) drizzled with a sweet gingery brown syrup thatโ€™s a match made in heaven with the warm soybean pudding. Pro tip: Burppler Esther Seletyn Chai says you can have it drizzled in soya milk too. On hot days, you canโ€™t go wrong with the simple Soya Bean (RM1.80), or the Soya Bean + Cincau (RM1.80).

Not-too-sweet soya bean with white sugar โ€“ they moved too fast for me to ask for brown sugar โ€“ thatโ€™s a must-have to sip on when in Petaling Street. Thereโ€™s also a soya cincau option!

I came on a Thursday afternoon and it was a completely different stall โ€“ Uncle Bean written on a yellow signboard. But I came back the next day and it was Kim Soya Bean! He tells me they (Kim) operates 7 days a week tho โ€“ still confused but glad to have finally had this! Was not expecting hot tau fu fa but this was very nice. More creamy with a denser consistency, the soy curd is super smooth. Especially loved the gingery brown sugar poured over.

Some things are nice in its truest form and syrup is one of them.

Diagonally opposite Hong Leong Bank in Petaling Street is Kim Soya Bean. Small and unsuspecting, you probably wouldn't even notice it unless you looked for it. And missed it many a times have I. This small stall sells tau fu fa (RM 1.60 per bowl; RM 2.00 per box), Soya Bean a.k.a soy milk (RM 1.50 per cup; RM 1.60 per pack; small bottle RM 2.50; Big Bottle RM 7.00) and Soy Milk with Herbal Jelly (cincau) at RM 1.90 per cup or per pack. I had the tau fu fa in black sugar syrup but you can opt to have it in soy milk instead of syrup.

What can I say? The syrup wasn't overly sweet and it tasted so rich. It was a balance between smooth tau fu fa and the rich, thick, undiluted black sugar syrup.

I never knew about this place till a friend told me it was quite a famous stall. I do see why now. Sometimes all you need on a hot day, is a warm bowl of tau fu fa. And remember, there is a plastic bag to throw the bowls away at the stall. Use it.
