Komala Vilas Vegetarian Restaurant (Serangoon Road)

150 Wishlisted
Having opened its doors in 1947, Komala Vilas has become a household name in Singapore. It all began in 1936 when our founder, Mr. Murugiah Rajoo, came to Singapore from India. With his entrepreneurship, dedication and hard work, he established Komala Vilas on 29th May, 1947. Wanting to provide an authentic dining experience, Mr. Rajoo even served meals on fresh banana leaves a time-honored tradition from his home in Tanjore District, Tamil Nadu. Today, Komala Vilas conjures fond memories of delicious dosais, sumptuous thali meals and aromatic South Indian coffee among our patrons. Singaporeans, Indians, tourists and vegetarians around the world continue to seek out Komala Vilas. We aim to offer our patrons an authentic Indian meal at a reasonable price. Komala Vilas serves both South Indian and North Indian vegetarian meals at three locations today.

Ordered 3 sets that was $16.50 in total. Super worth and very yummy. 10/10 would go again! Sadly didn’t have time to get the Masala Tea :(

Drop by this double-storied shophouse on Serangoon Road that's good for conversations over hearty food. Start with their Vadai Set ($3) for crispy yet fluffy, savoury lentil "donuts" served with a side of chutney. For mains, share their Dosai Set ($8.50) for a generously-sized paper dosai accompanied by a varied selection of vegetable curries, sambar, chutney and kulambu. End your meal off on a spicy and sweet note with their Masala Chai ($1.80).

I just love Dosais I cannot even 😍 I tried the crispy paper-thin dosai at Komala's for the first time and imagine my joy when I first saw the huge rolled up Indian crepe! I had it plain, just dipped in the accompanying daal, but to get it crispy do note that it will definitely be oily than the non-crispy version!

Ordered the thosai set. Was so surprised to see the size of the thosai! It couldnt even fit the plate. Love that it came with a variety dips and sauces. Really authentic place, most of the patrons were Indians, with a few tourists around.

The food is great - but greater still to eat it with my best friends.

Set in two floors of a shophouse unit along a busy stretch of Serangoon Road, Komala Vilas has been serving fast, tasty food since 1947. Head upstairs, order at the counter and take a seat as they bang out your food in no time. Have their standout Vadai Set ($3), fried savoury lentil "donuts" that come with chutney. Vadais can be unsatisfyingly cold and limp, but the ones here are always crisp on the outside and very fluffy. But what you're really here for is their Dosai Meal ($8.50, opt for the Paper Dosai over the heavy Masala) — a humongous paper dosai the length of your arm served with three vegetable curries, sambar, chutney and kulambu. This is a filling meal that can be shared by two for lunch, and will no doubt satisfy any thosai cravings you're having. Don't forget to end your meal with a cup of warm Masala Tea ($1.80) and you'll leave happy and full.
Avg Price: $10 per person
