Komala Vilas

Having opened its doors in 1947, Komala Vilas has become a household name in Singapore. It all began in 1936 when our founder, Mr. Murugiah Rajoo, came to Singapore from India. With his entrepreneurship, dedication and hard work, he established Komala Vilas on 29th May, 1947. Wanting to provide an authentic dining experience, Mr. Rajoo even served meals on fresh banana leaves a time-honored tradition from his home in Tanjore District, Tamil Nadu. Today, Komala Vilas conjures fond memories of delicious dosais, sumptuous thali meals and aromatic South Indian coffee among our patrons. Singaporeans, Indians, tourists and vegetarians around the world continue to seek out Komala Vilas. We aim to offer our patrons an authentic Indian meal at a reasonable price. Komala Vilas serves both South Indian and North Indian vegetarian meals at three locations today.

It's not bad, the spices were there and not overly sweet. Mainly cardamom coming through

Honestly just go in and show them this picture it's easier than finding something on the menu. They will ask you to go to the second floor, where the sets are eaten and it's more atas.

The thosai was crispy and quite thin but not the best I've had. Still very good, and is absolutely huge. I doubt many people can finish the entire set

The veggies were absolutely delicious. There's a creamy spinach stew that's very comforting, and the stir fried green beans were flavourful and well executed too.

From left to right for sauces(first 3 spicy, next and top not spicy):
My favourite, a mild tomato sauce with considerable depth and a bit of heat. It's really, really lovely
The white slow burn sauce that's very traditional with thosais
A yellow sour sauce
Dhal curry, pretty good
Lastly on top is some kind of creamy, very mild sauce that has a particular taste to it. I quite like it but can't tell what it is

On the right the dessert was delicious, not ridiculously sweet and there's a nice milky taste to it, while the raisins brought bursts of sharp sourness

👉Dosai Meal - SGD10
Paper/Masala Dosai, served with 3 vegetables, sambar, chutney & kulambu

I got their Masala Dosai which was packed with generous amount of mashed potato fillings. As for their vegetables which changes from time to time, I really enjoyed the ones I had that day - cucumbers, lady’s fingers & long beans. Totally no idea how they were cooked but most importantly, the flavours managed to excite both my taste buds and imagination. And finally not to forget their sambar, kulambu and 3 different chutneys that gave rise to countless unique flavour combinations. All in all, simply just eat how ever you like/enjoy it!😋👍

Was introduced to my first Vegetarian Biryani ($9.50), and was so pleasantly surprised! The Biryani included a variety of side dishes and the best was the eggplant one, that was so flavourful and aromatic. The rice was very fluffy as well, good enough to eat on its own. Best of all, it came with 2 papadum 😍😍
