I did not have very high expectations of Koryori Hayashi (#01-11), the humble looking Japanese stall on the 1st storey of Amoy Street Food Centre. So
imagine my surprise when the Mentaiko Pasta ($7.50) turned out to be packed with umami and really delicious❤️ A generous dollop of Mentaiko is added to the pasta and I like that the sauce is creamy and flavourful, but not jelat:) So good!

You could probably find this authentic Japanese food stall here at 1st floor of the food centre with affordable price! It was really crispy and to my surprise it actually comes with fried pumpkin!

Either way, I don't particularly care as I'll just gobble both down. Koryori Hayashi deep fries a few thick chunks of chicken to a glamorous golden brown and till the skin is crispy, before they bathe it in a sweet & savory teriyaki sauce. It's then bowled up on a bed of nicely steamed Japanese rice, alongside an egg-splosive over easy egg and some greens to make you feels just that teensy bit healthier.

While this bowl of teriyaki chicken don is neither nothing fantastic nor memorable, it is decent, and at $5.90, it'll help to preserve your ricebowl while satisfying your tastebuds and tummy.

Koryori Hayashi is yet another(!) newly opened hawker stall on the first floor of Amoy Street Food Centre, and they have borne the cross of rectifying the dire lack of Japanese food options within Amoy. Unfortunately, by the time I got to put in my order, they had run out of rice (REEEEEEEEEE), effectively eliminating the 4 ricebowls on their menu. As such, I had to settle for this bowl of mentaiko pasta, priced at $7 a bowl.

Mentaiko pasta is nothing new, and Koryori Hayashi isn't attempting to reinvent the wheel either. Instead, they opted to dish out a rather satisfying, wallet friendly option of it. Al dente pasta is tossed within a deluge of mentaiko sauce that was a lot less salty than I expected it to be and served with a small squad of shrimp. While I did think that the sauce could've been a little more savory to up the oomph-factor, it was delightfully creamy and luscious, and was loaded with an abundance of actual fish roe within.

For $7, it's quite a decent deal. However, due to Koryori Hayashi having the standard, newly opened teething problems that are exacerbated by the shocking lack of space within the stall, the wait can go up to half an hour long.

Unless you have the patience of a Tibetan Monk, I would advise giving them some time to refine their processes before giving them all the much-needed love and support you can.

This didn't wow us as much as the Dashi Ramen ($8) and I'll definitely pay that extra dollar for it instead. The pasta came with a good number of prawns but I thought the mentaiko flavours didn’t really stand out even though they were generous with the creamy sauce. I did like the clever addition of the tiny fried anchovies though, it added a good savoury crunch in between bites!
