Filling is thick and creamy and tastes pretty much like jackfruit, it’s not too sweet, but I didn’t like it as I’m not a fan of jackfruit (ordered it as the lady at the stall recommended the chempedak flavour).

Thick, creamy and luscious durian filling. Great for durian lovers, probably too overpowering if you’re not a fan of durian. I liked this though I’d advise eating the other flavours before this as the durian aroma is really strong and you probably won’t be able to smell or taste much after.

I love how pretty this kueh is. The contrast between the light cream exterior and the rich purple sweet potato filling is a feast for the eyes. Similar to the other fillings, the sweet potato filling is thick and creamy. It’s not too sweet. The flavour is a little mild as compared to the other unique/exciting flavours sold at Kueh Ho Jiak but it’s a comforting and safe option :)

So the shape of this kueh is actually Doraemon’s head - I didn’t notice until uploading the photo! Do you see it? Hope you’re not as fail as I am.

The black sesame filling is sure to appeal to fans of black sesame and goma. It’s got a ground sesame seed texture rather than a paste, so it’s bursting with strong nutty black sesame aroma and flavour with every bite. There’s not much sweetener added, so it tends to get a little bit bitter with each mouthful, but I found that the kueh skin balanced out the bitterness overall. If you prefer more traditional or less sweet fillings, this is a good choice!

The grated coconut used in the kueh is sweetened just right. It’s juicy and each bite releases a delightful burst of coconut-sugar. Perfect sweetness when eaten with the kueh skin.

Good choice for a traditional sweet filling.

Perhaps the most funky and unique filling at Kueh Ho Jiak - have you ever seen hae bee hiam in an Ang ku kueh before? I sure haven’t. This filling came highly recommended by the lady manning the stall, and I was curious about how it’d taste.

Cutting into the kueh reveals a vibrant orange prawn floss which smells amazing. I admit I had my reservations as I hadn’t had savoury Ang ku kueh before, but I was sold from the first bite. I love the savoury prawn floss filling. It’s even somewhat spicy!

Choose this flavour if you’re adventurous, or even just curious what hae bee tastes like in a kueh.
