Chicken 60c/pc, Pork Belly :$1.20/pc. Min 10 pieces, 5 per type.

Forgo the chicken satay and get the pork belly ones. There was nothing special about the chicken satay compared to the ones you can get at hawker satay stalls, but the pork belly satay was on another level. It was a lot well marinated and juicier, perhaps cos of the fats, and plus they were almost twice the size of the chicken satays. Go for the pork belly noms!

What’s the star of the show is definitely their Pork Belly Satay ($1.20) which is charcoal grilled to perfection. Well marinated with the slight bitterness from the burnt ends make this meat on a stick an absolute joy to eat. The satay sauce is nothing to shout about, just focus your attention on the meat.

Price is okay but mean is too lean... BBQ taste is too soft... There are better satays out there.

What I liked: the satay.
What I didn’t like: the sauce.
Although this stall is pretty famous, I have to confess not everything suited my tastebuds.
Granted the satay itself was good. I got the chicken and found the meat well marinated and tender. Because the grilling was done very well, the satay had just the right amount of char to ensure it appeared appetising and delivered the all-important smokiness.
The sauce however, was another story. It‘s a matter of personal taste of course and this simply didn’t appeal to me. I found it one-dimensional and lacking oomph. The smooth-ish, rather watery ground peanut sauce was also not spicy enough. Plus what’s supposed to be a dollop of mashed pineapple in there did not taste anything like the fruit. No tang was detected whatsoever.
Sorry if I sound harsh but I had expected more. But do note my preference has always been for spicier satay sauces that have a lot of texture. So at the end of the day, although I did not like it, there are those who do.

Located at 549 Geylang Lorong 29, Sing Lian Eating House. (Same coffee shop as Swee Guan Hokkien Mee). Delicious Satays at 60 cents each for Pork, Chicken and Mutton (min 10pcs). We ordered 10 Pork satays and it was mouth-watering! Satay was well marinated, super perfectly grilled and yet still very juicy! Well paired with their homemade peanut satay sauce!! #hungryunicornsg #kwongsatay #lor29geylang #satay #porksatay
