What I liked: the satay.
What I didn’t like: the sauce.
Although this stall is pretty famous, I have to confess not everything suited my tastebuds.
Granted the satay itself was good. I got the chicken and found the meat well marinated and tender. Because the grilling was done very well, the satay had just the right amount of char to ensure it appeared appetising and delivered the all-important smokiness.
The sauce however, was another story. It‘s a matter of personal taste of course and this simply didn’t appeal to me. I found it one-dimensional and lacking oomph. The smooth-ish, rather watery ground peanut sauce was also not spicy enough. Plus what’s supposed to be a dollop of mashed pineapple in there did not taste anything like the fruit. No tang was detected whatsoever.
Sorry if I sound harsh but I had expected more. But do note my preference has always been for spicier satay sauces that have a lot of texture. So at the end of the day, although I did not like it, there are those who do.

Located at 549 Geylang Lorong 29, Sing Lian Eating House. (Same coffee shop as Swee Guan Hokkien Mee). Delicious Satays at 60 cents each for Pork, Chicken and Mutton (min 10pcs). We ordered 10 Pork satays and it was mouth-watering! Satay was well marinated, super perfectly grilled and yet still very juicy! Well paired with their homemade peanut satay sauce!! #hungryunicornsg #kwongsatay #lor29geylang #satay #porksatay

:( This was a good choice, of tender pork loin satay which was sweetly fragrant and succulent.

Also had the Hokkien Mee next stall. BUT I definitely need to cut down on suppers. Okay, perhaps my last this year. Perhaps. #DFDHawker

Quite different from the typical Muslim stalls with the addition of the Pork option, but I'm so glad they offer it because it's nicely barbecued and well balanced with the fattiness and meat.

Kwong satay - Each stick of pork belly is so smoky, has charred edges and is dripping with juices.

Had 5 Pork Belly and 5 chicken - Super perfectly grilled and yes you didn't read wrongly - it's PORK BELLY SATAY!!!! Layers of fat and lean meat strung together, giving it a nice bite while the fatty part dissolve in the mouth. I don't really like pork satay due to the toughness of the meat, but for this store, the pork was as tender as the chicken one! Also, they have their own special satay peanut sauce that has an interesting pink hue 😻 it's Super Yum for my tum! Can't help but reach sticks after sticks till all was gone! So underrated in this Coffeeshop especially next to the famous charcoal fired Swee Guan Hokkien Mee :)
