Swirling into the latest bandwagon, La Levain’s take on the trending cream-filled round croissants is right up my alley as it comes with a small variety so there is one for everyone.

For the sweets, the Nutella ($6.50) was not particularly life-changing but a foolproof bake. The Passionfruit and Mango ($6.20), on the other hand, was a tangy-sweet surprise. The tropical number with the Passionfruit Mango Nameraka cream filling had a great blend of the two fruity flavours. For something sharper and tart, the house-made filling for the Raspberry ($6.20) had an intensity just shy of making your lips pucker. Hence, refreshing to the palate, the jam went superbly with the vibrant Raspberry Valrhona Inspiration piped at the top - the luscious berry chocolate adding that sweetness to counter a bit of the acidity. Lastly, the Bobochacha La LeBombz ($6.80), inspired by one of their best-sellers, marries fresh coconut cream with steamed sweet potato and yam which have been baked with fragrant vanilla pods. Dusted with natural sweet potato powder, the bake was not heavy or starchy at all and the sweetness was just right.

Not forgetting the Truffle Cream Cheese ($8.20) then turns things up a notch with a rich Truffle Paste and Truffle Honey infused Cream Cheese topped with AOP Gruyere Cheese. The hints of saltiness from the cheese work surprisingly well with the aromatic hits of truffle.

Thanks Burpple and La Levain for hosting!

With a limited number made every day, the La LeBombz were flaky and really well-filled. Great lamination from the dough and the fillings were distinct with a nice punch of flavours.

The Mushroom and Camembert Cheese ($7.20) was a classic pairing with the well-seasoned earthy mushrooms, melted Camembert Cheese, and creamy Bechamel Sauce.

From the range of savoury La LeBombz, the Parma Ham and Emmental Cheese ($9.50) would be my pick! Nicely balanced, I love the saltish hits with the slices of ham. The Emmental Cheese added a great savouriness as well which married wonderfully with the Rocket and tangy In-house Honey Mustard, as well as Hot Honey. Like a sweet spiced sauce, the hot honey tied the peppery rocket leaves together with the classic ham and cheese combo superbly.

The teochew ones were better, these were alright, pretty decent mooncakes, couldn’t really taste the liqueur, but still a good mooncake.

These were just the right amount of flakiness and sweetness. The mochi center was a welcomed touch to counter the pasty filling!
