Since being established by Yap Eng Lam (Ah Lam) in 1975, they've been innovating with rice and noodle dishes. The salt-baked chicken here is delicious, but since you're already here, they also serve a tasty bowl of bak chor mee.
.
This is the atas premium option, with top shell abalone. They once used whole abalone, but few would pay $100 for a simple meal, hence the switch to a more wallet-friendly option.
.
The other unique feature is the omission of black vinegar from the gravy, and options to add battered scallops or soft boiled onsen egg.
.
They're generous with the minced pork and pork slices, and the overall bowl has satisfying meaty savoury sweet spicy flavour.

Come for the noodles, stay for the chicken. I don't know why Lam's promote their abalone noodle when their salt-baked is sick. When I bite into the tender, juicy bird, the meal was saved. Their noodles are usually quite normal.

Mee kia is good as always. Fried fish ball was really Q and yummy.

It sounded like a great idea, but the execution sucked. It was practically homecooked plain rice topped with homecooked fried egg. Their chicken is reliable, but it couldn't save the preposterousness.

Lam's Kitchen opened at Teck Whye Terrace recently. It is a chain of eateries which is said to have introduced abalone until kopitiam dishes.

Their signature abalone noodles costs $7. It's a decent bowl of noodles but there is nothing special about it. TBH I am not impressed considering the premium they charge over other stalls just for two miserable bite-sized piece of abalone.

Likewise, there is nothing special about their otah carrot cake. It is basically carrot cake with some additional otah in it and they charge you a premium for it.

Their salt baked chicken with egg rice was probably the best of the lot. The chicken is tender and flavourful and goes well with the egg and rice.

Lam's Kitchen serves decent food though I probably won't recommend it considering the other options around.
