Lao Zhong Zhong Eating House is a pretty happening coffeeshop with a nice variety of options popular with the neighbourhood. Came by one weekend for lunch & it wasn’t that packed - so I didn’t have to queue for my food at Teochew Mushroom Minced Meat Noodles (what a generic stall name).

Their Signature Noodles ($6.50 nett) were teeming with ingredients: Fishball, thicccc fishball, meaty meatball (the kind with meat & juice inside mmm my favourite), fishcake wrapped in bean curd skin.. & the usual suspects for BCM: Fishcake, sliced braised mushrooms, pork slices & minced pork.

I got the mee pok dry version; the noodles are firm & of medium thickness (less doughy than the MacPherson BCM mee pok). The chilli packs a punch here! While not unbearable, it might get to you by the end of your meal. Next time, I’ll probably ask for slightly less chilli.

The bowl of soup on the side is also good - umami, with a hint of sweetness. There are a ton of shallots inside, which make it quite fragrant too.

Despite service being self-service here, the stall uncle delivered my food to me - I guess because the coffeeshop wasn't bustlin’? Appreciated the thoughtful gesture.

I’d actually wandered here as part of Plan B, cos the nearby MacPherson Bak Chor Mee was sold out for the day. But I’m not mad about it - overall, I enjoyed this & consider this an above average bowl of noodles. Coffee at this coffeeshop is not bad too.

The neighbouring stalls get all the hype, but this supper spot has been serving a tasty bowl of bak chor mee for over 10+ years.

The gravy is balanced with equal sour savoury spicy flavour, and the chewy mee pok / wide flat egh noodles pick it up well.
.
The braised mushrooms have a nice vegetal earthy salty savoury flavour, with a juicy bite.

I like that they have 2 different kinds of dumplings too.

This stall at Potong Pasir is one of those that was much better in the past, but they still serve a reliable above average rendition.

What remains good here - the juicy 5 spice roll with meaty earthy savoury sweet salty flavour, and the crispy handmade prawn fritters with enticing sweet savoury salty flavour.

The bouncy tofu beancurd with grainy sweet flavour is pretty good too, especially with their rich chili sauce which has a good spicy sour nutty kick.

They used to serve cucumbers with each order, but not anymore. The fried bee hoon / vermicelli noodles is decent, but runs out far too quickly.

After reading my post in Lim's Fried Oyster, one of my 师兄s commented that it is "not solid enough" and recommended this stall at Lao Zhong Zhong Eating House instead. Needless to say, I needed no further invitation.

I guess this can be described as a hidden find because there is very little information or reviews on this stall. I am also not sure if Google got the name of the stall right too.

The first thing you will notice is their oysters of course. Though they are as plump as Lim's XXL sized korean oysters, they are big, fat and juicy in their own right. Their flour batter though is way better. It is a lot less greasy and much more savoury and crispy.

To be honest, both are great renditions but between the two, I kinda prefer Meng Kee as their flour batter is tastier and its closer to home!

Best in Singapore? At least, in my opinion. Never a fan of such hawker food until I tried Lao Zhong Zhong. Quality ingredients are used. Everything is good especially the Ngoh Hiang that was packed with yam. I like the fried dish with egg too. Not sure what it’s called. Go for the chestnut cake as well, the dip is the perfect complement for the fried stuff! 😍

Couldn’t resist dropping by LZZ for its delicious Wu Xiang when we were in the vicinity earlier!
