Back to my favourite pastry shop that has been there for decades and even more .

It is rare for pastry shops to make their own fillings for their pastries and Lau Chong kee just does that . This means less sweet fillings and more authentic taste .

Flaky and crispy pastry with a smooth lotus seed filling that’s not too sweet .

Also must try their 豆蓉酥(salty and sweet bean pie ) . It is extremely addictive . Extremely extremely smooth sweet and salty bean paste that’s not too sweet encased in a crusty and crispy pastry .

Also must try their mini red mooncakes - the red bean paste is so aromatic - a taste of it and you”ll know you are getting the real stuff - homemade red bean paste .

Must also try their “flower shaped “ egg cakes ( 鸡蛋糕) and the red bean egg cakes .

Still the place I’d always go back to for my old school pastries .

Always fresh, authentic and so affordable .

I hope they will continue for many many many more years to come .

Sandwiched in between fruit stalls ( near where OG is) , you will see this snack stall with a red signboard Called Lau Chong Kee.

If there’s a place that brings back memories, it has to be this stall that hasn’t changed over the years .

I love almost everything here . The guang Su bing ( I call it the white powdery pancake ) has almost disappeared from the face of the earth but they still have it.

These traditional sponge cakes are so fluffy and eggy and taste so traditional. When I think of traditional sponge cakes ,I think of Lau Chong kee .

My other personal favourites are the red bean paste pastries ( Hong dou Su ) and the mixed sweet and savoury bean pastries (Dou rong Su) .
The skin of these pastries are so crisp and fresh and non greasy. The fillings of these pastries are home made and hence the sweetness level can be

Every time I visit this stall, I like to take my time to look at all the pastries neatly laid out in the display shelf . And as much as I already know what I want - I just like standing around admiring these traditional pastries - because we can’t take for granted that they may be here today but gone tomorrow .

Eating the sponge cake makes me feel like a child all over again 😊

Walking down memory lane ... ...

For those of you whom are confused with where this is - this stall is housed within the Hawker that is next to OG people's park.

I literally grew up eating these pastries because my Uncle has a shop at people's park and he would baby-sit us while my mum does had routine shopping at the infamous Swanson ( too crowded for little kids to navigate ).

I used to snack on the cute sponge cakes ( in the shape of a flower) here but in the recent years - I grew to love the pastries here more. The green bean pastry ( Dou rong ) is a must try. I haven't had a pastry that is so fresh and crispy and non greasy . The crispy and slightly flaky pastry goes so well with the delectable home made bean paste. You would agree with me that the bean paste is homemade when you try it . It is so smooth and non sweet ( very rare these days !) and almost like a cross breed between salted bean and lotus paste. The red bean pastry is also good with very fragrant home made red bean paste.

The other mention worthy items are the steamed egg cakes ( which come in plain or Pandan Flavours ), the old fashion custard pie and the custard buns.

Grab some home and share them with your parents or your grandparents and watch their eyes twinkle because these pastries are really so authentic and old school .
